87Rotary STD Starting Problem
My 87 non-turbo has starting problem, but runs great after started. The plugs (replaced) are black and I clean them but still have the problem. There seems to be a wining noise at the back of the engine. It takes 3-4 tries before it starts and then smokes alot for a short time. HELP!

You only need fuel & spark, naturally at the right time, so slow starting may be caused by a delay in fuel supply. Did you check fuel pressure? Not only running pressure, but pressure after shutdown? If fuel is bleeding back into tank, it may take a short period for pressure to build. Some smoke would be considered normal on startup, then when cats get to temp, it will dissapear. How's oil comsumption?

87Rotary Starting Problem
Thanks for the quick reply. The car has 102K miles on it and it uses oil. About a quart in a month. It is in good condition and runs great except for the starting.

the Qt a month is fine. Thats from your OMP (or MOP) injecting the oil into your combustion chamber to lube up the apex seals. Its when it DOESNT use oil thats the problem.
