87' Turbo2 dies on startup.

When I start my car it will turn on and idle up then drop right back down and die. Anybody know what could be causing this? I try to give it gas but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Well we just changed the plugs, air filter, and oil. The only thing I could think of would be the fuel filter. I just bought this car so I don't know when it was last tuned up but it looks like it hasn't had one in a long time.

It's had stalling problems since I bought it last week. Usually when I'd be going fast and slow down. Then it would stall. Maybe that problem is finally now creeping up to bite me.

It's most likely a vacuum leak. Did the car run when you bought it?

Most common spot is the duct from the airbox to the turbo inlet - it cracks on the turbo inlet, and makes a big ol' vacuum leak.

I'll check that. But ya, the car ran fine when I bought it. It would start up fine. Occaisionally it would rev high on startup, but if I gave it a little gas it would go back down to 750-800RPM idle. Then, like I said before it would sometimes die on me (and all the lights on the warning cluster would come on) when I'd be slowing down from going at high speeds. Could the TPS maybe be bad? A short in the ECU?

ECU's rarely go bad, and would definitely not cause this problem. The TPS mainly affects drivability, not starting.

I'm voting on vacuum leak still. That's gonna be tricky to find - again, check your turbo inlet duct for cracks.

Id bet on the TID is either off on the turbo or you have a crack in it. Happened to me as well. car would start right up for a second then die. check that before you go taking apart ure car.

I am guessing you either cracked the TID or knocked it off the turbo when u changed the air filter, no big whoop. But those are all tell-tale signs of an intake leak, also check the hose between the intake side of the intercooler and the BAC I have seen more than one of those go out.
