I am going to have a local drivetrain shop install the new gears for me. I have looked at the FSM for installing new ring and pinion gears and bearings and I'm not comfortable doing it. I have new pinion bearings and seals and new side bearings and seals, new crush tube and lock nut on the way. I plan on dropping the differential off next weekend to get fixed but I was just curious as to what it looked like inside there.

Edit - the wheels are Sportmax 962's.

Well, I felt like adding an update, so here we are. Still waiting for the differential parts, but i forgot to mention I ordered a set of Racing Beat springs as well. I have had a couple sets( Tein S Tech's, Tanabe GF210's) of springs before but was never happy with their fit. I ordered the Racing Beat springs because they are supposed to be the same size as the stock springs but lower and tighter.

I plan on finishing the suspension while the rear end is being rebuilt.

I managed to mock up a mount for the Palm used with the Rtek 2.1, now I just have to buy a better palm, think Tungsten T5 or TX so I can rig up a charging circuit.

A bit further.

I got a bunch of goodies in the mail today.

Racing Beat lowering springs-

Bearings, crush tube, lock nut and seals for Differential, some LSD additive and shifter spring as well-

New springs are definitely shorter than stock-

Rear mounted on KYB AGX-

Rear installed-

I still have to finish the front ones, the I need to order the camber link for the rear before the diff goes back in.

Haha..

I did the math a while ago and it was around $11,000 all in all, so by now it's it's easily up to $12,000 over a three year period including the initial purchase of the car.

Well, I try not to think about the money, it's for a good cause is all I tell myself. But I just can't seem to leave the car alone, I have already made up my mind that the car is a keeper, not going to be for sale while I'm alive. There are just so many things that could stand to be replaced, it's like I no sooner finish one thing and I start another.

My next few purchases will include new brake pads, rotors and lines and a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 electronic boost controller. Thats a couple hundo right there.

The way I look at, I couldn't get a car that I like better for the money that I have in my FC (though, I haven't spent 12k..). What is be better than a re-done FC for around 12k. I would say nothing.

right, I aim to get it in brand new condition soon, and it'll be worth it, these went for like $20K I think back when it was new. I mean you could either buy a new Kia or build a new TII...

I had ordered them but the shipment got messed up so I went and bought other stuff instead. But I got the extra $600 from that stimulus check so I'll probably order the tires this week.

Thumbs up

Nice nice. Must be a really nice feel on the ride compared to the stock ones?

I remember when I had KYB AGX, it was nice.

Got anti roll bars? (SwayBars)
Get the adj links too coz the old ones can easily snap.

Yeah I was going to get the package from Racing Beat that had the springs and sways but I was short on cash and needed the springs more so right now. I just ordered all new rotors and pads for it tonight. I still have to get the differential stuff done, I'll try to drop that off one of these days.

So I ordered some more new parts today.

All new slotted rotors w/ pads and all new shock mounts and spring seats. My current brakes suck from sitting for so long and I'm going to go back and redo the new shocks and springs with new mounts and spring seats just for piece of mind.

I also decided that I won't be having a shop rebuild the diff, the cheapest labor I can find is way more than I can justify spending. I was going to do it myself with all the new parts but I just don't feel like chancing it and ruining all the new parts. So, I went ahead and bought a fresh jspec rear differential from Japan2LA instead. I'm just gonna return the new bearings and sell the perfect ring and pinion for $100 if anyone is interested.

add 2 tires the list of parts i bought today. Within the last week I have bought

Lowering Springs
All New Brakes
Rear Differential
Shock mounts and spring seats
and 2 Tires

for a grand total of $1,262.86 in the last 7 days.

I am going to stop buying things until my next paycheck now. I at least need gas money to get to work for the next 2 weeks, I don't need food or water, just gasoline and new parts.

Thanks a lot guys. It's gonna come together real quick here once we get the diff, brakes and tires taken care of. I won't know what to do if the rear end doesn't scream loud as hell, it's done it as long as I have owned the car. haha

The ring and pinion gears that are For Sale are from a Jspec S4 TII rear end so I think they're 4.30 - I think. the guy only needed the LSD from it so I got the ring and pinion gears. I wa told there were only 30,000 miles on them, they look brand new, no wear from what I can tell..

My brakes arrived today. I only got the slotted and drilled rotors because i forgot to specify otherwise when ordering. Anyways, they should be a **** ton better than what I had there.

Old brakes that sat for years-

New Brakes-

I also received the front tires, I still have to buy the rears but they are coming soon. I had intended to run Kumho Ecsta MX but they were on back order and these Ecsta ASX are great and cheaper too.
