I just bought a 87 rx-7 too... And I`m wondering with the same problem... But what I know... You should search for a compleate repair manual... I just got one of those for myself...

First off change all the fluids, filters(air, oil, fuel), plugs and plug wires, and even belts if they look bad. Give it a full tune up, then you can look into modding other things.

Other things you can look into are full exhaust, suspension, wheels and tires, etc.
Search around and you find all the information you need.

^ All covered in the Haynes manual. Just do everything in chapter 1 right away, and again according to the schedule. Also do forum searches on: OEM thermostat, fuel pulsation dampener, DTSS, logicon, auxillary ports, grounds. For power, forum search on: catalytical converter, mufflers, cold air intake. For handling, forum search on: springs, shocks, sway bars, suspension bushings, tower braces. Stiffness is matter of preference (higher = better handling, worse comfort). Just make sure the shocks, springs and sway bars all have about the same stiffness or you'll be in trouble. Also look into weight reduction. Besides that overheating or driving with zero oil pressure will quickly total the engine, so pull over right away. Ok, now read up!

Do all and consider what everyone says. Keep in mind to read anything in the forum, important or not. You never know what it may hold! You may also want to keep brand like Racingbeat and Mazdatrix in mind.
