87 N/a to turbo question

first and foremost im fairly aware of the drawbacks of installing a turbo on the s4 block.
im just curious as to what my limitations are when it comes down to specs, and what numbers i should be expecting.
how much boost would be safe on stock ports and so forth..
im planning on using a..
T04B p trim exh
.96 A/R center turbine housing
.6 A/R compressor housing
with a t5/T6 compressor wheel trim
and i was planning on putting a bar plate 2.5" in/outlet FMIC.

i dont know much about my Fc tho a carfax said it WAS a turbo model,
even tho its NA right now.
wish there was a way to kno if the drivetrain is still TII or what..
mainly going to be using it for autoX and DD if it matters.

If you serach arond a little for "6 port boost", "high compression boost" and variations you should find a lot of info.

But I have to say (and I say this not to be mean) that if you ask this question, you can't do the project. Take a look at the FAQ and Archives to get an idea of what is involved in the project and then decide for yourself if you have the skills.

well depends on the skills your refering to. i finished swapping in a motor from my old FC into my new one since the other one got totaled (86gxl) im very mechanically inclined so the actual work isnt a problem.

i was planning on turbo-ing this 6port til it gives out and maybe swap out to a 4port and reuse everythin.
i think my coolant seal is giving out so i thought i'd make the best of it.
besides i've been wanting to mess with turbos for awhile, get somekind of experience out of it.

If your coolant seal is giving out, why would you waste any money turbocharging it before it gives only to swap out to a 4port??? I am not trying to be a dick but you have got to be kidding me.

Mods this thread is worthless...

All I can say is I agree with jesus;

how would i be wasting money on it? anything you do to a car would be considered a waste of money any way you'd look at it since you'll never gain profit..
i've read other posts and threads about turboing a 6 port and how big of a pain it is to port it and so forth.
so im not putting any money INTO the block itself.
im just bolting on things so i can reuse them with a 4port.
i believe me car was a turbo2 at some point.. atleast thats what carfax says even tho it had an NA in it.. i didnt get it.. owell.
im just trying to get my feet wet with this project.

i kno the simplest and cheapest way would be to get a 13BT as i can get ahold of one for about $300.. i just dont want to. i want to get familiar with things that have to do with turbos and so forth.

Hmm so let's see...I think my motor is going bad so let me spend a ton of money on it so that I can help it die even faster, then buy a different type of motor once the 1st one dies.. I think Einstien would be proud of you.

N/A to turbo swap at least 2000.00
Replacing the motor with a TII the right way 3000.00 (easy, I do mean easy!)
Scratching my head as to why it won't run right, posting numerous help threads, and then realizing I just *** raped myself = PRICELESS

Paaaaleeeeeeeze delete this thread!!!

well obviously sacrasm was what you were aiming towards MR. rotorfoce and by golly you hit the mark buddy!! i've read the stickies and so forth.. i kno its goin to cost some money.
the fact is i have time and money to "spend" not WASTE. like i stated BEFORE there is never a profit when modifying ANYTHING good or bad... AND AS I STATED BEFORE, im not doing this to get it done "easier".
i want to go the full circle about doing this. get to kno the parts and so forth. swapping engines doesnt take ANY skill.. i've done so many as is.. anywas enough of me explaing, and enough of yall guys trying to convince me to quit..
simple question!!
what were the numbers mr. Aaron came out with after his NA to Turbo project?

Well if you've read the info available then there's not a lot more to say really. If the project is basically a learning experience and you aren't worried about how much it will cost then go for it. There are several versions of this project. My original project tried to keep as many NA pieces as possible, basically bolting the turbo to the block and fabbing up the rest. It's easier if you swap the TII intakes on to the NA engine since it's basically a bolt on after you port match.

did you exper. any worse lag other that what you'd expect?
im actually goin to do pretty much what you did. i dont want to swap out too much.
keep it as simple, and move up from there.
did you ever get around to dyno-ing your na to turbo?

There was essentially no lag. The stock TII isn't very laggy either.

No, I did not dyno the car.

Sarcasm was not my intention, humor was

If you have money to spend and that is the least of your concerns then fine I too have plenty of money at my disposal, but I guess i am a bit more cautious as to how I spend it.

Hey if you want the experience then go for it. Since swapping engines doesn't take any skill I am going to assume you won't be posting any "help" threads while doing it. I wasn't trying to tell you to quit but rather trying to find a reason why you would do the job twice. It's your perrogative and I hope it works out well.

"but, practics makes perfect" i agree!
i actually am taking apart the bad engine right now to get familiar with the internals.
that way when my blows atleast i got an idea of how to take this apart.
reason im going to do this project now (FYI)
i just sold my bro's old Firebird which he practically gave me for $6,000.
thats just extra cash i thought i'd put to good use since im planning on competing in some things at the end of this year.
i see where most of you are coming from tho.
its pretty much the same argument me and my bro come to.
his ideas are conservative.. he rather weight out his options and pay someone else do to the work..
i'd rather do **** myself and learn in the process..
i get satisfaction after putting something together, making it work.. and enjoying the ride afterwards.
