87' Base N/A not starting.

Hey, I'm really new with the rotary engine. I really don't have any experience with what goes wrong with them yet because my vert at 160,xxx is still running strong. I just picked up a 87' base model to turn into a drift pig for $300. Currently, it's not running. It will crank over, but wont run. It isn't hesitant to crank either. I was comparing the engine bay to that of my vert' to see what is missing, and this little piece connected to the TB is missing on the base model.

I'm positive that isn't the reason it's not starting, but I figured I throw that up here as well.

Anyone?
Any help would be appreciated.

Background info on the car, has been off the road since 95', the previous owner thought it was starving for fuel. He put in a new fuel pump a couple of months ago. Said that he got it to run for about 8 seconds by sticking a rag dampened with gasoline into the intake.

No the lever is sitting right there.... Anyways.... first of all. ON the left side (Driver side) of your engine is where the fuel hoses connect. Pull off the one that is closest to the front of the car. Disconnect your ignition coils for safe measure. Put the fuel hose end into an empty bottle, turn the key to position 2 and then actuate your Mass air flow sensor, or crank the car, and see if any fuel comes out.

If it doesn't hesitate to crank, as in cranks HELLA fast, could mean no compression but let's not jump the gun.
