in my car the tach doesn't work, and to me it feels like it redlines quickly...? like the max is shift at 30 from 2nd to third. is this correct? or what

For the no tach issue, try checking your trailing coil (search for the procedure). I don't really follow your 2nd problem.

 

He probably means he has to shift at 30 miles per hour from second to third? redlines in second gear at 30mph?

 

yea it acts like it redlines sooner than its sapose to .. anyways its a 1987 stock manual non turbo 2nd gen. ...other than that it seems to run good..needs a tune-up though. i just put a new fuel pump on it along with a new master cylinder and slave cylinder

Bad plugs can cause wierd symptoms. Personally I'd start there imo.
