Depends on what you have. N/A get better gas mileage with lower octane gas. As with a TII, the gasoline number on the dealer tag was still 87, but I find that I usually get better gas mileage if I use a higher octane (mainly Amoco Ultimate) in my AE. Search the topic, it's been discussed many times.

The engine is rated for 87 octane, but if it is in really bad shape and is knocking, then move up to the next octane until the knocking stops. You can use any pump gas octane higher than the minimum rated octane with no problem other than you are paying more money for anti-knock properties that you do not need.

Just keep in mind that the octane rating is an anti-knock rating, and has nothing to do with power, performance, emissions, cleaning properties, or anything else.

It's all in your head unless your engine is in modified or in really bad condition and knocks with the 87, causing the knock sensor to retard the timing, which reduces performance.
