89 motor in it an 86, not currently running, and the wiring (im guessing the driver side harness) not hooked up. If this is the case the owner is selling it because he relized that he would not be able to get it to run/run correctly and is looking to unload it on someone.

I wouldn't take that car, much less pay $500, unless I was planning to take the motor out and install a 86-88 motor. That swap is the only one I have not been able to complete in 6 years of living FC's.

If its really nice and you are planning on buying a used s4 motor ($500) and rebuilding it yourself ($1000) then go for it.

engine swap isn't too hard... did it in a couple days or less with some jacks, a haynes manual and a winch (sp?).

i spent about 5 dollars on crimps to get my rebuilt s5 '90 block to work in my s4 '88 se (a couple of the sensor connectors are different). it's not that hard unless you're using a s5 intake, rat's nest (solenoids and vacuum tubes under the intake) or front cover... but there are write ups on how to do that too (except front cover) i think.

from my experience, if the s5 motor in it is good all you need to get it to work without wiring modification is a s4 intake set and front cover (and omp) because the blocks are almost identical except for these two things.

I wonder what's up with the craze of swapping between series as of late. Oh well, it's not too difficult to do if you use a s4 engine harness.

i think alot of swapping has to do with availability rather than wanting a different series engine... i got my s5 engine for 130 dollars with 90k on it, i wasn't going to find a cheaper or better core for a rebuild.
