86 Rx7
Hello all i am new to the forum, i recently bought a 86 RX7, the person that sold it to me said that the engine was rebuilt by rotary preformance, and the tranny he put in him self 4 months ago, well i bought the car, and there is a Vacum leak, so i have to pump the gas to keep it going, then i drive it 20 miles back home, first of all it has no cat, so the thing is louder than hell, so i drive home and i get to the house , go in side for 5 mins then come back out, well the car dies on me underneath a over pass, i push it to the gas station, call the guy and he doesnt answer so... i figure its been sitting for 3 months mabe it needs oil so i put 2 quarts of 10w-30, i let it cool for a hour and nothing, so now i am stuck and i dont know what to do!!! i heard it could be that the Bull plug, or plug of some sort could out but would that cause it not to start?? plz help!!!!

There are a few cities called Plano. Which state are you in? From there, we can help you find a local shop that does rotary work and maybe some other members who can drop by and look at your 7 with you...

GO to the south section of the regional forums. There seems to be a lot of people in dallas and Ft. Worth. A vaccume leak can be easy to fix but sometimes hard to find. Try to unflood it. What you do is you go under the hood and you see a little black box inside are fuses pull the EGI fuse then mash the gas pedal to the floor and crank for 10 seconds repeat three times (making sure you let the started cool down after each crank) then replace the fuse and try to turn it on. If it was flooded then after this it will smoke a little for about three to five minutes but should go away and is normal.

I am not trying to be an *** here, but did you just add the oil or check it first? the way you wrote it, seems like you just thought to add some and did....too much oil in an engine will cause it to not start, as it slows down the moving parts and gets in the way of the combustion. Is yours a turbo or non turbo? For non turbos, you should use the lowest octane possible, especially stock engines.
That smell like a lawn mower sounds to me like gas in your exhaust. My 86 GXL has done the exact same thing as yours--without the rough running first. It stalled while on the road. Usually, when someone on here has a flooded motor, it doesn't seem to happen like this....usually they shut it off and it doesnt start when they come back to it. I was told to check for possible bad injectors--cracked or split. Do a search on this forum for "flooding" and you will find how to unflood it. It may take a few times of doing it so have patience
Also--how do you know that you have a vacuum leak? there are several reasons for it to run rough like that besides vacuum leak. I would go to your auto parts store and get a Haynes repair manual for the car. only set you back about $13 and it will help you out a lot in understanding the 7.

you don not need to take it out of the car to clean up the internals....you can do that right in the car. Do a search in this forum for atf......in there you will find a post that talks about using water to clean your engine. It will not harm your engine, it was very simple to do, and it apparently gets great results! It involves taking a hose off your boost sensor and placing it into a bucket with a gallon of clean water....then you start the car and keep the revs up to about 3K-4K til the water is gone--the water is turned to steam and steam cleans your whole engine out. I am going to do that myself as soon as I get my new afm and get my injectors back from their cleaning.
