How much Do you want? I'm only making 6.75 at the moment so I'll have to get a loan either way, Although i'm going to start working at BestBuy (Geeksquad $12+/h)(hopefully/maybe).

In anycase I talked with the guy today and asked him a few more questions. Apparently he just purchased the car in the previous 5000miles, the previous owner apparently kept is garaged when not using it and in the winter, and also kept all his mechicanical work receipts. I'm going to ask to meet the person somewhere to look at these papers to see if any major work has been done (engine rebuild hopefully). And from the sounds of it, it is a non-GXL model since it doesn't have power-steering/windows/locks which I believe is standard on the GXL version. It does have A/C...

(tried not to double-post but I added this past the time limit for editing)

should still have power steering...

sounds like a base model or could be a sport. unless its the latter, that would bring the price down even lower.

I'll call him up tommorow and ask if it has a spoiler, since according to Icemark's option/standard sticky it Should if it's a sport.... Thats the only real thing I guess I can ask to tell the difference, since the current owner seems to know very little about the car.

Most likely it is barebones base model like the one I drive. Typically the sport model comes with A/C and power steering. If it has no rear bins it is also probably a base model.

Is it difficult to drive a non-power steering car? And if so, is it expensive to upgrade to power steering?

No, it is not. If you start out driving an RX-7 without power steering you will get used to it fairly quickly. If you start out driving one with power steering and you switch to one without or a removed power steering system, it will be much harder to adapt to. I have both and I enjoy the non-powered steering of my base model much more than my wife's S5 GXL which has power steering.

You can put power steering on a car that does not have it. It entails getting the power steering pump, associated lines, power steering rack, and I think the power steering computer(?).

This should settle the price. Kelly blue book says that the private party price for an '86 base RX-7 without PS, in excellent condition is $1955. That's in the SF Bay Area. It woult probably be worth less out there. The price of everything is jacked up out here. If you want to calculate it for your area, go to www.kbb.com.

I have twig arms and I LOVE manual steering, and without power steering driving is simple. Its nothing to worry about, power steering is for girls.

I dunno, I like my power steering.. of course, my experience with manual steering is pretty much my dad's 85 Rx7 GS... which has the epitomy of "Wonder steering" (as in: I wonder where it's going to go next?). I'm sure with a tight manual rack its great, though.. When I have extra smack, i'm going to do the conversion properly, and go to a manual rack.
