Has anyone made their own lower arm bar?

I was curious if anyone has made themselves a lower arm bar to tie the rear a-arm pivots points together on the front suspension. I know Mazdaspeed, Cusco and AUTO-EXE make them, but the Cusco one is around $100 and it looks much weaker than the Mazdaspeed unit which looks quite stout, but is about $150, and the AUTO-EXE set is around $500! I can't afford to spend that much for an upgrade right now, plus I'm a cheap bastard, and for those prices it's not a good value for money as the improvement won't be that remarkable.

I wanted to know what others had come up with for a solution, or if no-one had done it themselves before.

I made myself a simple one out of a piece of aluminum bar stock, but it isn't strong enough and it bent, so I'll be making another one out of square steel tubing. I hope to be able to get all the materials I need to do it on Friday (tomorrow) and have it made on Saturday. I don't have a digital camera at the moment as my parents have it on vacation so there'll be no pics soon, but if it works out well I'll post a how-to writup so that no-one else has to shell out so much unnecessary cash for an item that can be simply and easily made at home with basic tools.

i dont know how much time and money your spending on this equipment. sounds like your efforts are almost the same cost as the ones you dont want to buy.

i bought the one from Ebay a while back. (i cant remember who made it) it works great, i felt big difference. its much tighter in the turns, i just only wish they would make one for the rear. it's that gold one that you see everynow and then. it was only $50 and IMHO it was more than worth it. direct bolt on w/no problems!!

So far I've spent a total of about $15 (Canadian Dollars) on materials (for the aluminum first prototype that failed and the new steel one that I think will be good) and did all the work myself, so it's not a big expense. The Mazdaspeed one which is the one I would have gotten is $152 US (from Corksport) plus shipping, taxes and duty, so it'd be more like $250 Canadian by the time I'd get my hands on it, that;s a BIG price difference. I only spent a couple hours on it so far, including shopping for materials. Once I'm done this and see how well it works I'll post a how-to so that nobody will ever have to spend all that unneeded money again.
