'86 RX-7, help!
I have just got an 86 rx-7 and it has a little problem starting. it did start up when jumped but then after it had stalled, it refused to restart. i have strong reason to believe the computer is not sending any signals to the feul injectors. it was able to start with carborator cleaner sprayed directly in the intake. i have also tried many places in the area to get a used computer, but all dont have any.
so, if anyone has any other suggestions to what i can do to get it starting up and/or experienced the same thing, and if anyone knows of a place near new haven, ct that might have one, send me an email and tell me what ya think.
thanks.

The computers in the 86-88 models suck. They werent designed to heat the rotors up like the 89-92 models, so they are hard to start. Try holding the gas pedal down while you try to crank it. it should start up. I always have to do that to mine, and my car runs perfectly fine. It's just the way the computer is programmed.

Also, the "hold the pedal to the floor" trick only works on the 89+ models. The '86-'88 cars don't have the programming in the ECU (and frankly, they don't even know when the pedal is floored due to the narrow range TPS).
The original poster should test the fuel pump before assuming the ECU is bad.

I have personally also used that method. It works, just as well as pulling fuses or fuel pump switches.

While flooring the pedal does clear flooding, it is not because the ECU is programmed that way. It works because it get's a lot more air into the engine. Works on my car as well even though it's a very early '86. But this is much different then the programmed unflooding on the 89+ cars...

That could be an idea sureshot, but mine was stupider than that I was wondering if it starts up and stalls, and then when he puts carb cleaner in it, it will start up and run just fine. If anything I think it is flooding next time it does this do some unflooding methods. And to **** your neighbors off do the one with ATF in the combustion chamber, it will also kill the bugs.

In responce to cory's queastion, it started with the cleaner spraying into the intake and once removed, the engine stalled out.
i had just recieved another computer for the car and tryed to jump it. it turns over but still refuses to start. i tryed pumping the gas, it didnt start but i did smell the gas.
I would appreciate any more suggestions.
and what this about tje ATF and the combustion chamber?
