'86 na has lost its acceleration....suggestions?
My '86 na has lost its acceleration. I romp on the gas and barely get the car to climb to 5000 rpm if I wait long enough.
I'm sure this is pretty basic.... Not enough gas to the chambers or I'm restricting the exhaust somehow.....intake maybe.
Just installed new air filter...no diff. Planning to replace spark plugs (been 2 yrs since last changed).
Suggestion on where to look first other than a full diagnostic? Quick / obvious fixes I can try???
Thanks

Hmmm. Any sounds/smells? Could be a blown engine or a bad clutch, or a dozen different things. I know I had the same problem when I thrashed my OEM clutch a few months back...

Sounds & smells:
Pretty smoky in the morning....clears up after a while when hot. (140K miles) No bad smells. Smells like roses compared to my '91 vert....still can't get that fixed.
Shifts pretty well. 1st to 2nd a little tough ...gotta baby the shift. Doesn't sound like any slipping is occurring.
Any other ideas?

Hey John, just up the street from you in Silver Creek area.
John and Bill, I don't have much experience with the cat, but willing to dive into it. Suggestions on how to diagnose this would be great.
If its clogged, is there a way I can clear it or at least check to see its clogged? Will dig into my technicians manual.
Thanks.
