86 na

so i currently own a 86 non turbo, and its been nothing but problems
hard to start all the time

and today my air pump seized, so i took the belt off of it, but it seems my car has lost its "punch " @ over 5000 rpm, and i have no clue why, the 5th N 6th ports are opening and closing fine.

help ?

and also the starting issue, seems to flood all the time, so i am constantly taking out the fuse for the fuel pump, and running the unflood procedure.

help PLZ, i am buying an fd, BUT i still need this for atleast winter usage

I'm sure that you can find an air pump in the For Sale section here for $20 shipped. Why not put one on and see if there's any change. On an '86, the 5th and 6th ports open by exhaust back pressure (unless a previous owner was monkeying around with yours) so the should be no effect caused by the failure of the air pump. And those ports open at around 3800 rpm, so you should be having the problem there, not at 5k, if the ports are at fault. Some guys have changed over to air pump operated ports, so give it a check.

you need the air pump on an NA, when you take if off there isn't any back pressure at all, because there's an open end

I would either take apart your airpump and oil it up (they aren't that complicated) or just order a new one, that'll fix your problem.

You may know this but just making sure.

The rx7 will flood very easily if you dont wait for it to go back to idle before turning it off. The injectors will sometimes stick on and flood the engine. I was having trouble with flooding and have completely eliminated it by getting in the habit of letting it idle for a second before turning it off, also i press the gas once and let it revdown. Its very easy, especially when your just moving the car or something to shut it off too fast and flood her.

well my friend has his 5th N 6th ports tacked open his air pump removed, all 3 cats , N his resonator removed, and his ****** MOVES, like compared to mine

the flooding thing, my friend had some button put in that stopped his engine from flooding when he held it ? does that stop the fuel pump or ???

thanks again guys.

yeah... just install a fuel pump on/off switch and that helps with flooding a lot!

then sit there and turn over the engine a couple times, then cut on the fuel switch and you should be good. dont mess with all that "removing the spark plugs" and crap. its so unnecessary
