86 Idiling problem

SO im kinda new to this forum, so forgive me if this question has already ben answered before, but i looked i swear and couldnt find my answer.
SO i recently aquired an 86 Rx-7, kind of a project car. And she starts up, but unless you give her gas, she wont stay started. Once above 1.5k-2k rpm's she sounds fine, but once under 1.5k she wants to stall out. Id like to think its either a timing issue, or a spark/wire/coil issue. Has this happend to anyone before, and know of anything that might be the problem?
Again, im new here so dont hate me to bad if someone allready asked something similar, and its staring me in the face :P I hope to work with yall alot in the near future. Thanks!

vacume leak or fuel problem maybe... if u just got it I would recomend u give it a full tune up (filters, plugs, wires, etc) and get some good unleaded regular gas in there and see what happens

post pics of it I have an 86 alos and I am interested..

btw I will send u a pm!

seriously, if its a project car and you actually intend on working on it you need to learn to diagnose these thing, in so many different threads people have this problem and almost everytime its the vaccum hoses, that would make you struggle to hold your idle until the hoses "puff up" unless there really bad, in which case your lucky the car can even idle for a few seconds.

heres the easies way to test this:

1 have the car completely cold...start it up. is it giving you problems?

2 ok now let it run until its completely warm, anything wrong?

3 ok final one....turn it off let it sit for about a half an hour. now start it up, is it holding its idle? or is it doing it?

if the car is fine for 1 and 2 but not 3 then its a minor vaccum leak

if the car is fine for 1 but not 2 and 3 then its a major vaccum leak

if its not fine for any then its the vaccum hoses and something else, or you are missing vaccum hoses (or something else really stupid is wrong)

is it a "timed" shut down? happens about the same time every time?

check the vacuum line going into the fuel rail
make sure the secondary throttle plates are opening fully
check for fuel leaks
(probably not related...)make sure the ignition cables are plugged in their correct spots

hold the clutch down and put it in gear when you start it, does it hold any idle at all?? or does it immediately die? the car is supposed to start at 3000 RPM for about 20 seconds and then drop to 750 RPM. its called the accelerated warm up. if your main idle is set too low the car will die as soon as the warm up procedure is done.

After spending all day with my Rx, i changed the coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. but nothing prevailed. So we took a vacum tester to the vacum lines on the front of the throttle body. the middle one has no vacum, so we belive thats the problem. cause the car starts up for about 7 seconds and then dies off. Now for the question. The vacum line goes around and then under the throttle body and then under the intake pipes. Once under we lose track of it, and cant see it. Is there a way to replace the line without removing the throttle body and intake, or is that the only way to do it?

thats the only way to do it... btw did u replace you fuel filter... if not do that to u could have bad gas or low pressure due to a clogged filter
