86 GXL rear speaker brackets
A while back I came across a post where a memeber made a wood bracket for aftermarket speakers in the rear tower. I have been searching for it again but did not come up with it.
Does anyone know of this post or one like it? It started off as a picture of the brackets and then he added a pretty good diagram of how he cut it out.
Thanks

It's really not hard man. I made my own out of a sheet of 0.040" aluminum. just take your speaker cover off. Put your sheet of metal over the rear tower, and trace the outline. If you are buying new speakers, they come with a stencil for mounting them, if not it's not hard to trace your speakers on, drill holes etc... I will take pics for you if I remember..

(The aluminum I used has a paper film on it, I didnt bother to remove it as you dont see anything under the cover)

Sorry to pull up an old thread, but, I'm right in the middle of my audio upgrade. AmT T, how flimsy is the .040 alum? I was thinking of some 16ga steel, but don't have tools to do that. If .040 alum is strong enough for ~100w rms I might be able to find somebody who can cut it for me.

Problem is, no place around here has 1/4" MDF around here. And, isn't hardboard the same as peg board? If so, 1/8" I don't think would be strong enough. I'm wanting to empty my plastic bucket and make a new top/adapter for it, not free air on the strut tower, at least that's what it looks like, in AmT T's setup.
I used a quality 1/4" plywood and mounted the adapter under the original lip. That way it doesn't interfere with the cover. Also dressed it up with some universal automotive carpet. I'm out of town and don't have the pictures with me, but I'll try to post them up on Sunday. Looks really clean.
