Okay, I just got this car 2 weeks ago... Last Sunday the car just wouldn't start for ****.. battery died..
I noticed before it died though it wasn't really being charged past 12 volts on the voltimeter.. and that I should have it checked when I got some moola in. The Rex had another idea.
So I run out and I buy a brandy new Battery.. nice 75 bux down throw her in and wham shes back up at 14-16 volts on the voltimeter... I collect up my tools jump back in the rex... and shes down back to 12.. wtf...
So commonsense (my version of it) says bad alternator.. I shut her down and leave her alone for a few days (Got the battery on Thursday...) Now its back to Sunday I'm strolling back from a late shift at work.. and decide to pop the hatch to see if any water got into her from the pouring rain last night.. Great news no water at all.. shes solid... look towards the security light.. its not on
Just to ***** and giggles I jump in and try to start her... knowing my fate that she'll never start.. put the key in and wow.. I own the best paperweight in the world again..
Now I tend to think the kid that owned the car before me didn't know **** about wiring.. Taken from the left over wires he left inside the compartment for the nice 400 Sony Cd player he left in it.. He ran wires to kick panel front speakers.. got rid of the in dash ones, ran speaker wire to the back pilons and to my amazement drilled into them. Well to the pioneer speakers that were originally in there he threw in crap kenwoods that my sisters speak and spell could outperform. One look under the dash where the Cd player in looks like an electrical closet from hell.
Where do I start diagnosing this problem ? I've really no clue except to turn to you guys before I take her into the shop to have the alternator changed and electrical system diagnosed. I'm also having her put on the computer just so I can diagnose some possible engine problems with the injectors. If its not the injectors I'm doing the ATF treatment on her.
I got about 500 bux to put in her this week.. anyone have a clue how much the Electrical diagnosis should cost ?
