86 and 87 wiring harness swap?

about a month ago i put in a thread about not having power in the cockpit and having to run a wire from the battery to the engine fuse inside the car.... i got power but it started overheating and melting the fuses. I took the old wiring harness out and put a good one from and 87 in it........now i cant get the ignition to work.....everything seems to power up but the car will not even attempt to start.......any suggestions?

You say there isn't any juice to the ingition switch? Is the car a manual or an automatic? Maybe the clutch sensor switch is bad and not allowing it to start....or else not hooked up....pending it being a manual trans....

There is a black wire that connects to the ignition switch harness. Disconnect the ignition switch harness and see if the BLACK wire has 12v. It should be there any time the battery is connected up. The ignition switch harness connectors are about a foot below the ignition switch itself.

Check for 12V at the proper locations on the switch?

Standard electrical troubleshooting practices apply.
