Question 86 13B problems and solutions

Flooding, had bad inj, replaced, had bad fuel pump, r&r'd, had bad fuel, fixed. Starts-but only last for few seconds without as much smoke as i'd expect from sitting for 5 years. Got the engine out of a car, i drove in my shop(rolled it,no fun). It feels like it's flooding as it starts, (by turning on and off the fuel pump i can sense the excess fuel). I'm going to wire up a cutoff switch and see if i cant control it from there. I think if ican get it running even by controlling the fuel pump, enough to warm it up, it will come back to life. Really like to get it started before the ATF trick. PS- I have 5 7's. one 1st gen and 4 2nd gens. Getting ready to drop a 351C in the 1st Gen. Anybody got suggestions? I think i may need to check the temp. sensors next. I did mess witht the distributor/crank sensor trigger. Maybee need to move it back. I also have another brain box i could swap.

Yeah, talked to Grant. Ordered the small block kit. May have to modify the oil pan to get it to fit. I'm really excited about it though. I like the 2nd gens better, independent rear, full disc's, etc. But if i'm gonna destroy one, i'd rather it be the first gen. I'll let you know how it goes. My kit is in, proboly won't get to it till summer though. I gotta get my house boat re-painted, in the water and some other vehicle projects as well as some more bike projects done first.

I tried to search to find what triggers the injectors to fire in the run position. Something must be sending a signal to the ECU? to tell it that it is running. I think maybe my fuel pump is cutting out in the run position. I read a few threads that referenced this but could not find them again. Does anybody have any info on this? I think maybe my AFM could be bad from sitting for 5 years. I know i am close and i know the engine ran fine before. I have plenty of extra parts and i know how to use a DMM. I know i am getting great spark but do not know if it is at the right time. anyone got any helpful info on what to search for on this site? My next try will be to bypass the fuel pump and run it manually off of independent wiring or to use the jumper wire test conector under the hood.
