82k mile 91 N/A...1st mod?

I'll be picking up my 7 tomorrow night and I already bought a new shift boot for it and pre-mix. I am thinking to either do the superchager mod, or get this:

http://rx7.com/store/rx7/FC25racepipe.html

P.S. - I live in Flordia (no emissions)

I'm not sure which one to do first.
Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Get the Racepipe first....... Then an SAFC (when you put the racepipe on, you'll run rich (especially at high RPM), need to take some fuel out.)

Why did you buy premix????? just curious...

premix for safety of mind o.o

fix up the suspension first. it makes so much of a difference with just new shocks you'll thank yourself. especially if your old ones are fubar. kyb agx's are nice.

The S5 electronic OMP is pretty reliable, so pre-mix is overkill.
If it fails, you will get a check light.

After fluids, filters, belts & hoses; I'd check the plugs, the Aux ports, & The VDI for starters.

First mod- full duals baby..
link to video of short on-ramp - full duals

Check out the links in my sig below.

Not to sound like an old man...but does the car run in good stock condition (not just running "good enough"). I'd get her to stock condition before I begin going too crazy with it. First mod though...it's a hard toss up between intake or exhaust, but those are easily the most important as first things. You're either choking it with the stock exhaust (dear lord are you ever)...or it's taking in the "air of the sun" with the stock intake (hellaciously hot...pun intended). Intake is cheaper if that matters to you (and don't settle for a "hot air intake"), but both will make a very noticeable difference in the car. Good luck and welcome the the world of the N/A 7 I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself...

Be safe,
Kiyo

yea get the car tuned and running great w/o any mods..

oil, coolant flush, compression test, maybe do the water trick and clean out your engine (do a search for the water thing, i hear it can work wonders??) hoses, oil lines, wires, battery, plugs.... etc

then start modifying.. b4 you add the supercharger, do the duals! definatly.. you'll see some noticable power right there, then if you wanna do the superchager right after the exhaust you can do a cold air intake while your at that, let us know how it goes

Good call on the "water trick", I used carb cleaner but he's right it DOES work wonders (I know from experience).

To "parrot" what everyone else has mentioned:
Make sure the car is 100% before you start modding. This includes:

Change Oil and filter
Transmission fluid - change
Rear differential fluid - change
Replace spark plugs - Inspect plug wires for cracked boots
Inspect fan belts and replace if cracked
Inspect radiator hoses and replace if cracked
Replace the thermostat with a MAZDA OEM Thermostat!!!
Replace the coolant - 40/60 mix of antifreeze/water
Check the oil cooler lines for leaks - replace if needed.
Change the brake fluid and inspect the brake pads.
BIG ONE: Look for oil leaks around the oil filter. Replace o-rings under filter if leaking. Inspect the heater hose directly below the oil filter...make sure oil dripping from filter has not damaged the heater hose.

Come back to the list after you've done ALL of this. Then we'll talk mods... Personally having a good set of tires will do wonders for these cars. I'd start there and with the shocks.

PS: Don't remove the air-pump. You need it to operate the 6-ports and VDI.

i agree with making sure its in good running order and check/replace whatever needs replacing including the clutch, brakes, and suspension. then id say get a good exhaust...headers, midpipe, catback first. the best gains are from exhaust then proceed from there.

Hey thanks for all the posts fellas

Well the car is in PERFECT running condition, I bought it off an old couple so NOTHING is wrong with it. I am picking it up tonight, so I'll post some sweet pics once I get it out of the carwash :-)

I'm only going to be putting 2 oz. of pre-mix for every full tank just for peace of mind. My best friend has an FD and he pre-mixes alot, and his engine is hella clean, and since I don't have turbo's, I think 2 oz. per full tank will be enough to keep the engine clean, without being "overkill".

I think my first mod will be an homemade intake. I'll fabricate a cold air box and get a k and n cone filter. That should open things up nicely on the intake side at least.

When some more $$ comes in, I'll keep ya'll posted on the next mod.

All I can say is wait until you see how clean this S5 is. You'll **** your pants...i guarantee it!!

Brian

So okay I got the seven tonight...

I THOUGHT it ran perfect, however when I got back to school with it, about 40 miles from where I bought it, it started to squeal really bad in first and 2nd gear. Now I know it needs belts, so that wasn't so bad. I took it to the car wash and after i washed it, a bunch of idiot lights came on and wouldn't go off. I think I might've blew a fuse or something, however I didn't even spray the engine down or anything. Next thing is I start to see my volts go down. I just got in and my volts were at 8 and barely started. I thought it was because of the belts and they were slipping because they were wet and not charging the altenator, but now im thinking it might be something else. Anyone have any input?

Anyways, the exterior is sweet and looks sick. Here are some pictures I took tonight:

The idiot lights sometimes do go off when you wash it, at least in mine, but I have some cold solder issues I never dealt with yet. Also, replace your Fuel Pulsation Dampener.

I got there Bonez Intake, RP Race Pipe and the Single N1 and its sounds so beautiful. So deep and so mellow. At high rpms the intake just screams for more air.

I'd check your alternator belt first...

You're alternator is seizing up. Hence the broken belt, the sqweeling noise you heard, the low voltage, and the idiot lights coming on.

This is why I gave you the list of things to change BEFORE you start modding. I know you're excited about your new car but do yourself a favor and do the BASIC maintenance stuff first. It doesn't matter who the previous owners were or what condition you THINK the car is in. You'll be surprised at all the little things you find broken and how well you know you get to know your car after some basic maintenance.

He has a S5... only the S4 had the pulsation damper that is very prone to failure.

Congrats on the car. Once you get everything running well, do the previously mention intake exhasut stuff, then you should look at getting new shocks, and tires. Those can make all the difference in the world. An RX-7 with a good suspention setup is a thing to behold. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.
Also, use Castrol GTX. As far as I can tell, its the best dino-juice out there.
