the 80$ fc, a love story....

so ya. heres' a cute little story. i've owned a 93 touring for a little over a year now and totaly love it still.. the story is.. 2 days ago i got a call from a friend asking me if i knew anyone that wanted to buy a fc for 80$ so i decided to investigate as quickly as possible as i was very intrested in buying a fc for a second car to relive some torture off of my fd. so ya i have my friends shop check it out. bout 60lbs compression on all faces except rear has 0 on one face.. sideseal i figure. and they said that when they did finnaly get it to start it blew alot of oil smoke. driver seat worn out. paint is crap was gold, no clear left and faded gold looks much like poop brown. lol. only a few dents that were fixed. so ya, the guy was going to drive it to the junkyard but was afraid it wouldnt make it iwth all the smoke and it not running well. so i bout it, figured 80$ plus a rebuild still doesnt put me in much at all. gave the guy his beer money and left it at the shop till today. went and picked it up with a uhaul dolly, didnt try starting it or anything, didnt think about it. get it home and were in kinda tight spot and figure.. well hey lets see if maybe itll start and i can drive it off the ramps, hell with it. crank key, 2-3 rotations and starts right up... not having to give it any gas or anything. smoke begins.. so i drive it off the ramp, running a little rough but not horrid. i let it warm up and drive it around the back roads( im out of town) play around on the dirt road with it alittle and relize that the rear suspension has absolutly no dampning at all.. the car is littlerly hopping.. i mean ******* hopping like somone is launching the rearend off the ground with a damn crane.. very intresting to drive. so after driving it around and getting it actually up to operating temp the smoke goes away... like completly.. rev to 7500 and a little spit of smoke but no more then ive seen perfectly healthy rotarys spit at that rpm. and after it warmed up it didnt run rough at all, like it was getting compression on all faces, nice and smooth... so is it possible this thing was just gunked up?

my real questions are, how large of a port can i go and still pass california smogg.. i still have to smog the car or i would just do a t2 swap or somthing, but im thinking about just doing a healthy streetport, open up the exhaust and intake, port the manifolds maybe, and maybe a tune someday, keeeping it n/a and simple, and just have some fun with it.
so ya, will a large streetport on stock irons still pass smog? ive heard that the bridge has issues but streetports should be fine but im not exactly sure. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be outstanding..
thx for reading my damn little novel, i get a little carried away at times but im definetly a little excited. lol
thx in advance for any info.

sevens barely pass smog as is. a streetport will put you no where you want to be. but for a price you can always get "special" smogs for a price of course. but seeing your signature you shouldn't have any problem smoging the fc as you do your fd since all emissions are removed. good luck though

ahh that exactly how i got my TII up and running...before i bought it had lost compression on 1 face in the rear rotor and smoked like crazy and lost power. thought damn time for a rebuild or motor swap. then one day i decided to try something, reved the **** out of the motor then seafoamed it to see if it would do anything..got compression back, no power loss and no smoke. Probably blew out a bunch of carbon and reseated one of the seals. Idles not so good but runs like a champ, need to adjust timing.

seafoaming.

so seafoaming it cleared up the carbon and allowed the seal to function again? hmm might be worth a try huh?
i would really really like to get this things smogged and in my name before i rebuild so i can rebuild how i want. but im doubting that is going to happen at the moment.
its belching small amounts of coolant for a while after i shut it down. to much pressure in the system? water seals gone too?. hmm

If you have 0 on a face, its pretty much a lost cause, but you can at least try. Once it gets running it could clear up some, but I would still plan on a rebuild in the near future.
