6th port sleeves! HAHAHAHA!!!

I'm tearing down my engine... and, I just got the exhaust and lower intake off. I pull out my 5th and 6th port sleeves, and BUST UP LAUGHING! From pictures they look SO MUCH BIGGER! Then, after watching the RE Amemiya video, I realize, that Mr. Amemiya is a TINY TINY MAN!

On a lighter note, should I go ahead and clean/ship my sleeves to pineapple to get the PR sleeves ASAP? Also, are you SURE I can get almost 4HP for replacing JUST these little peices of metal???

Assuming that your accuators work properly, I think you'll get more that 4 hp. I don't have dyno proof, but I can notice quite a difference.

Well, I plan to ditch the actuators, and run with them wired open. You know, I NEED THAT TOP END!!!

Ok, just kidding. Actually, I intend to everntually ditch the Air-Pump, and go Electronic 6th Ports. I need these things, I'm in a hilly area. If I stop at a red light on a hill, I might as well be on a powerwheels jeep...

I'm thinking it might be fun to mount a switch inside to open & close them manually. That & a starter button, & a VDI switch. - - Naw.

Um...how can I tell if the actuators work? Ive read and searched...but I still dont get where to put the grease...I can bearly see my actuators let alone reach them? Also, can the PR sleeves be installed with the engine still in the bay, or does it need to be pulled?
Sorry for the dumb questions.

You dont grease them.

Theres no where TO put grease.

They are the two round things above the exhaust manifold.

on 1990 and newer, then push out, on older the pull in.

Dont force them, they snap easilly.

I have does the writeup on the rebuild for these sveral times, if you search, you'll find it.

It works wonders for your power and mileage.

And dont wire the damn things open.

If you can get to the actuators, then you might be able to get a sirenge, or anything that could produce air-pressure ( you only need a little, something like 3 PSI ) and a mirror. If you had adiquate lighting. Unhook the vacuum hose on each actuator, and stick the sirenge or whatnot on it, hold the mirror so you can see the arm part, and apply pressure. You should be able to see them spin.

As for putting the PR Sleeves in. Yes, you could pu thtem in with the engine in the engine bay; but it would be a pain in the ***. You have to take off the lower intake off. It could be done, but give yourself plunty of time to do it.

I'm not sure I'm read or perpared to mess with the lower intake...from some of the other posts I've read, reinstalling the intake is difficult to do, and there is a chance of a vaccum leak still. That might be above my riskyness threashold. (my car is my daily driver).

Lucky for me, I bought a 91' Dodge Shadow for $200 not too long ago. So when my engine went out, I had something to lean on. The intakes ARE a mess, that's why I'm tying to get rid of anything I can to clean up the bay. I'm also avoiding the vacuum leak probled by replacing the old rubber vacuum hoses with new silicon ones. If you give it enough time, I'm sure you can find someone ( Maybe Adam :Mazdaspeed7: ) who put PR sleeves in while the engine was in.

Have you read the FSM? It's all in there.
Also, can the PR sleeves be installed with the engine still in the bay, or does it need to be pulled?
The engine can stay but the intake manifold and everything associated with it comes off.
