60-1 Turbo with Airpump???

Does anyone know if a 60-1 turbo will work/fit while the stock airpump is still on the car (89 T2)? I have to smog my car and wanted to know if i upgrade to a full 60-1 can i put the airpump on and smog the car, then take it back off for nomal driving? Do i have to remove the turbo every im i smog? Just wanted to know since im not sure how much room that 60-1 takes up in the engine bay. Thanks

wondering...

I wonder if you could just remove the air-pump and install a 12V system electrical air compressor in its place...

The 60-1 will work with the stock airpump, but the exhaust manifold would have to be custom. Most manifolds move the turbo up and forward, right into the air pump.

You would probably need a higher volume air pump to do the job - Brian Cain used a Corvette electric air pump and was able to pass smog.

Remember, going with a large turbo and the like it's REALLY easy to get in a situation where you wouldn't pass emissions, especially if they do a visual inspection. Unless you're very familiar with emissions and fuel injection, you might want to keep your mods more reasonable.

YEAH. What Dale said.

Oh... BDC mounted the 'vette airpump approximately where the "sub zero assist" was located.

I'd have to agree with the others... I have a T60-1 on an HKS manifold and the turbo sits about where the air pump use to sit....

To my knowledge i dont have to worry about visual test. I did that 2 years ago and everything was ok. I have the tools to change turbos and stuff, but i wanted to sell my turbonetics stock upgrade to help pay for the new 60-1. The corvette airpump sounds like a good idea if i dont have to deal with visual. Could also get a junk stock turbo and put it on just for smog, doesnt have to be all that good of a turbo. I figured the 60-1 went where the smog pump goes, but wasnt sure. thanks for your help

Im not too concerned about running new feeds off the electrical system. I dont have the stock ecu anymore (WOLF 3D instead) and i have a big bad 190amp alternator that will have no problems handling the corvette air pump. Thanks for the thoughts though, good things to think about
