6-Port: Air Pump Actuated (to those who asked for it)

This is what my current setup is on my 88 NA:

Parts:
1) Fuel Hose (2 feet, other type of hose maybe use)
2) 3-Way barb (1, same size on 3 ends)
3) 2-way barb (1, same size on both ends)
4) Adjustable Valve (1, Needle or Ball) *male recommended
5) Clamps (at least 8 pieces)
6) Tiewraps

Tools:
1) Blade-cutter
2) Screwdriver
3) Tachometer (If you can't find a partner to help you)

Instructions:
Follow the drawing below. It is very self explanatory.

After Install:
You will need to adjust the valve in order to open the two 6-port actuators. I setup mine to open at 4000 RPM. At idle and below 4000, the valve should vent the air to an open space. And starting from 4000 and above, the rod on the 6-port actuator should begin to slide down, thus opening the 6-port and allowing more air to pass throught the intake.

You can do this by your self with a tachometer or ask a friend to help you set it up. Have your friend go inside the car and turn on the engine (running). Ask him to bring the RPM to 38000 - 4000 (whatever you desire) and let it stay there while you are adjusting the valve. Adjust the valve slowly until the actuators start to open.

Total Cost:
A little over $20.00

Labor Cost:
There are some things that money can't buy (friendship)

Time:
Approx. 1 hr

links works now, one question; what do you do with the lines that used to supply the air to the actuators? Either cap them off or just let the air vent out? And why even mess with the split air pipe? If you just tapped into the airpump hose and ran a line to a T that connected to the actuators it would work, but you would have no control over when they opened up; so just place an adjustable valve between the airpump and the actuators to vent off the excess. Just about the same idea as you have but without the split air pipe hassle. I'll work up a diagram to demonstate what I mean.

This should work and be a lil easier to install.

Hey Samps, my setup is for an 86-88 NA! The picture you have is for 89-91 NA. You don't even need to do that because it is already being activated by the air pump.

oh yeah, if you were not going to use an adjustable valve, might as well wire them up open, it's cheaper too. the reason why the adjustable valve is in there is to control the timing when the actuators should open and not to loose low end power.

I don't see why Samps drawing wouldn't work on an 86-88, and its easier than your setup.

because the 86-88 NAs does not have a direct hose going to the actuators.

I was thinking that this setup would allow me to adjust when the ports open up. Right now they seem to open up a lil late, although my NA is preaty heavily modified, and I'm not sure if the intake flow could benefit from opening up the ports a lil earlier. My car surges at like 6000rpms, and I am not sure if that is from the VDI or the ports opening, but I LIKE IT, and I want it to happen at like 5000rpm where I could take advantage of it a lil more. Your system is great for older setups and mine would be a lil easier for the later models. Either way it seems to be the best way to control the ports.
