5th gear no pull after 170?!

car doesn't want to go faster then 170kmh? But in 4th gear it will go over 200??

Whats up with that? Could it be the connectors under neath the car leading from the engine to the tranny hooked up wrong? Any ideas? Doesn't look like it wants to go past 4000 rpm in 5th....i need more speed!

How fast is that in real people's terms? Is it an NA or TII?

why are you in 5th at all at that speed? redline 4th and then go 5th... at 4000rpm you're not making enough power to go faster obviously, but at 6000 in 4th (or whatever it is) you'll be fine. that's what gears are for

*sigh* power power power...Thought it might be a limiter.....because i went up a hill at 170 (na horsepower, the real stuff ) and then it topped out before 4000 it pulled all the way to 170 UP A HILL

thats whay gears are for, at whatever revs you are in 4th you are making more HP and torque than you are at whatever rpm in 5th

you should be able to redline 4th which would see around 220-225kph

Yea, that is very slow (for those who don't know what it is...it's only about 105/106). What kinda condition is that car in...???

5th gear is also mega tall for gas mileage and emissions. Get a tranny with a more reasonable 5th gear ratio and it'll pull just as hard in 5th.

I just wish miata 6 speeds weren't so worthless....

A healthy N/A redlining at 8100 will still hit 135/140mph in 4th.

I remember way back when my car was still a n/a I had it up to 135mph (214kph) in 4th gear. This was screaming near 8000 rpm. When I shifted into 5th the car slowed down to about 125mph (198kph). Not enough power at that rpm range. This was all in an S4. My friend had an S5 and at the same speeds he was at a lower rpm than I was. He topped his out one day at right around 139-140 mph (about 223kph). Neither of our cars were stock though.

What does the GTU-S top out at in 5th, since it has the best gearing of the NAs?
