5th & 6th port Actuator with custom exhaust

Questions for a 1988 GXL N/A s4 whatever haha

Anyways I just got emissions done on the car and wanna do some custom exhaust with just a single pipe no duel, and I still have the stock header/manifold on it. My question is will 3inch exhaust all the way back with some sorta muffler or fart cannon I dunno yet work or should i go to like 4 inch? and also I have that line that comes off the exhaust to open the 5th and 6th port actuators or what ever, will drilling a hole and welding a flange on so the stock line bolts to the custom exhaust or do I need some sorta little tube aiming forward inside the exhaust to recieve exhaust flow. How does that all work?

i read this

"take the dump pipe off your air control valve and drill a hole to fit a vacuum barb. then run a hose from your actuators to that and it will open them if you still have your airpump."

Maybe a little more info but heres what i was thinking please correct me or point me in the right way

k so I take it the air comes from up top out of where the hose is really fat then goes down into the exhaust to provide fresh air and also up into that little hose to open the 5th and 6th port? if so couldnt you just cap the line some how where i put the red line? and would it work CORRECTLY?

thanks nytrate for the picture!

No, the air going to the cat is controlled by the ACV, which in turn is controlled by the Split-Air Solenoid, computer, etc. Basically, it wouldn't activate your 6PI at the right time or all the time. Also, the relief air exit from the ACV also doesn't come out at all the right times. More on this in the FSM Emissions section.

The exhaust may also not provide enough backpressure.

The easiest IMHO is to tap into the air from the air pump just before the ACV (near the front), and control it via a valve and a relief hose with a 'tee' with its own valve. There are more controlled ways of doing this, but are a little more complex (search 'RPM activated electronic activation 6PI).

The two methods mentioned are in the archives...
