I know the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same. That's about the extent what I know though.

Is it a T2 or no? Cause from what I've heard and seen is that the RX8 6 speed is weak, and probably going to not do you much good if you have many mods.

Sell the trans to an RX-8 owner who needs it, and buy yourself several good, used FC transmissions with the money.

if the bolt pattern is the same, they all you probaby need is a custom fit driveshaft, Possibly a different speedo cable. and you might need to extend wire, or change the connectors. If the Tranyy is cheap, TRY IT!

I would say torque would be the issue, not horsepower

well you beat me to it. moreso, even, a t2 with mods (he hasn't said whether its an n/a or t2 yet). even the rx8s (a few) have had tranny issues. as interested as i'd be just to drive the car with a 6 speed, i'd rather sell it, profit, and not blow the tranny just for kicks.

I agree. The drive shaft will be the real problem here. With the RX8 being a 4 door it has a longer wheel base. Though with the tranny being a 6 speed the tranny housing might be a bit longer which could allow the drive shaft to work. If you can get it bolted up then that would be super rad. A carbon fiber drive shaft will save a good amount of wieght and help accelleration.

The RX8 Tranny is a modified Miata tranny to fit into the 8, it will never take the abuse and HP of a highly modified rx7. Some 8 owners are already reporting bad trannies just because they slapped on slicks.

So don't put it on a highly modified RX-7, leave it to a mildly modified one.

I too want one for an N/A FC w/o a **** load of mods (I do believe that TQ is the issue), the gears are shorter which is the main reason I want one. I'd really like to see how this works out and how much you'd have to change.

Gearing for a TII would be totally off as well -- it would require new gear ratios to maximize the powerband of a TII.

Why not just buy the 6 spd sequencial tranny from HKS for 6k. then you wont have to worry about overpowering it since it can hold anywhere from 300-800. It is a lot more spendy though.

Damn... that sucks that it's so weak... I was wondering the same thing myself...

Make it a hell of a lot easier to drive the 7 after driving the SE-R for a while. (the only car I own with working A/C, so sometimes it does happen) I usually try to shift to 6th at least once or twice a trip for about 2 days afterwards... usually the BOV is an indication that I'd better not try to engage it.

I have had the same problem with the 180SX as well... enough of one that I'm toying with using the S15 SR20DET with a 6 speed when it gets put back on the road.

6 speed transmissions rock once you're used to them.

Maybe if there is a Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8 with a turbo it will force them to build a beefier version.

I would love that, except it would be a pain because of the diff. gear ratios for turbo and N/A. I would like it because it would be beefier for road course racing and such (I go to road america 2-3 times a year with Midwest Counsil (I can't spell) and the group I work with. They're all piston nuts, and I always wish that I had better gearing and rear end in my car because it just dosen't get out of the hole worth a crap in 2nd at ~30-35 mph. Maybe I should just carry more speed through? (probably get somthing over these crappy goodyear eagle HP's, they have no stickiness to them)

But seriously, a 6th gear to shorten the rpm drop would be great, especially for us, because it would keep us in our powerbands better.

Overall I don't really think this is something for turbo guys to think about...it's an N/A car so it's just not smart. The tranny is made for a high flyer N/A engine with lots of horsepower and adequate torque, not lots of horsepower and torque from the holy lord himself. If you're an N/A guy I say go for it, if turbo...buy an FD tranny if you want something new.
