5sp at the junkyard?
Ok i found a 87 5sp at my local junk yard they want 100$ for it.I already removed the starter, two bottom tranny bolts and loosened the top two.I also removed the master cylinder and the line for it.
My question is i cant seem to get the clutch pedal out.I removed the long nut but the bolt itself doesnt want to come out.is there a reason why?It got stuck near the brake pedal like something inside the tube stopped it?
One more thing i dont need the pressure plate right im buying a new clutch? And any good ideas to get the flywheel off,i have three hours to get it out thanks guys !

at first i tried using just a reg rachect wit a 9 ft lever arm. i ended up breaking the rachet. and i had my two cousins helping do it too. good thing it was a craftsman. so i just gave up and brought my air compressor and impact gun to the junk yard and *ziipp zipp* the bolt came off with in seconds. kinda made me feel like i wasted an entire day tryin to get it off.
btw, u can get that 54 mm or 2 1/8 inch socket at sears. took me awhile to figure out that they sell it there.

The guys are right....find an air compressor and it will zip that nut right off.
I actually broke my ring gear using a flywheel wrench propped against the cherry picker while pulling on the breaker bar.
The teeth on the ring gear snapped off instead of the nut coming loose. Yet, two seconds with an impact will do wonders.
Also, I second the whole automatic - manual flywheel being different. I have seen the two in person, they aren't compatible.

If you cant find an impact wrench, cut it off. A dremel may take a while, but It'd get it eventually, thats what I'm about to do w/ my blown s4 engine.

it is a standard threaded nut. Lefty loosie as noseated put it.
the story about loosing a foot over a flywheel breaking loose is very true.
My dad grew up building muscle cars and one of his best friends growing up lost his right leg from the knee down when his flywheel let loose at 9000 rpm. It bounced inside the trans housing for a few seconds and then the pieces came ripping through the interior. Some parts actually made it through the roof of the car. He is lucky none did any worse than take his leg. He could've died from it. This is the reason scatter shields are required in some drag racing classes.
How much damage it would do at a much lower rpm I can't say.....but the danger is there.
Use lock-tite on that nut when you re-install it. May be a hassle to take off in the future, but that is a problem I would rather deal with when it comes to pass.
