4 Piston Brake Calipers with Stock Phone Dials?

http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/4lug4potbrakes.htm

So, I know it's possible to stay 4 lug, and still have the 4 piston calipers. But, would they clear the stock 14" phone dial wheels? Any ideas?

I doubt you will find many OEM wheels that fit the big 4 piston caliper, and still have a four lug pattern. The 4 piston caliper sticks out at least 1.5" more then the single piston. While you could probably space the wheel out a bit to clear (making the car look funny and handling weird), it is still vertically much larger and likely won't fit under anything smaller then a 16" wheel. The 4 piston calipers are quite large.

The GXL had 15inch wheels and had 4 piston calipers, but they were 5 lug pattern.

is there anything i can do to improve my braking then? would slotted+drilled rotors make a difference? how about different material for brake pads? (i realize this may eat away at my rotors)

Man, that's a shame.

Why I don't want to switch wheels:

A.I just bought brand new tires for these

B.They're sweet looking wheels

C. I don't want to put money into new wheels/tires/ possible suspension & hubs, etc.

Better pads and stickier tires.

master cylinder brace would help. higher dot rating fluid might help. good pads and rotors would be nice.

my tires are fine. i need better braking force not better traction.

higher rated fluid would likely do nothing...what kind of pads should i get though? how long can i expect new rotors to last with some semi-metallic or full metallic pads?

You can get whatever pads you want, even full race pads. Look at EBC and Hawk pads, they are popular for pads with more bite.

Also, stickier tires will brake better so that's another avenue of getting better braking performance assuming you aren't already running a very sticky tire.

im not exceeding the limit of my tires is what i'm saying. i would just like something that has better braking force without stepping on the pedal as hard.
from what i've read, race (ceramic) pads wont heat up enough to be effective in daily driving. i understand semimetallic or metallic pads bite quite a bit better but i'm curious as to how fast they are going to eat away at my rotors.
