4-lug brake upgrade
4-lug brake upgrade
I searched and I searched, but I couldn't find this info on a 5-lug conversion. Do I have to change out my wheel bearings when I put the new hubs on? Also, I remember seeing a pictorial walk-through of installation, but I couldn't dig it up in the search, so if anyone has that, posting the pic would be most helpful.
Also, could I just get the hubs and calipers and then buy and install slotted rotors, Hawk HP pads, and stainless lines? I do autocross, and the single piston calipers are nearly okay, but in a year or so I'm going to move up to open track events and the like, so I'd like a way to get a little more stopping power.
Also, what would be a decent price on a set of four flawless 16x7" Enkei RS-Evolutions with Toyo Proxes T1-S tires with 80% tread? I'd have to get rid of my old wheels, and I was thinking of either going with Borbet Type-S wheels or the BBS RX. Nothing larger than 16" (too much rotational inertia).

you searched and found nothing? thats queer.
you have to change the whole spindle and brake assembly. itll bolt to your lower control arm, the lower ball joint down there... its just one nut.
then just bolt the spindle/knuckle to the strut, and then hook up your tie rod ends w/ the one nut... then hook up the brake lines to the calipers... you may want to upgrade the pads while your in there... Porterfield R4S are nothing but GOOD!
then just bleed your calipers till you see fresh fluid coming out.

yes and bleed and bleed and bleed some more my car took 2 bottles to bleed right after my conversion, you'll need the brake booster and master cylinder too, they are differnent of 5 lug rx-y(bigger) it bolts right up and i've heard using the old one will cause it to fail in no time i don't know i swapped mine out durring the process, the rear is a little harder i think and not worth my time i'd rather just save up and swap in a turbo II rear that will hold more power al long as i'm doin all that work

I contacted a local shop that's done lots of RX-7 work, and they advised that I get everything that connects to the lower control arm. Spindle and all. So I'll pick up the spindle and the hubs, then buy aftermarket rotors, pads and lines.
