3rd time lucky???? (long)
Well, after a 1.5 year gap I am now finally back in the RX7 game. I have just bought a '90 T2 vert and I am absolutely stoked.
This is now my third RX7 since 98, but the question is will I be able to hang on to this one without either blowing it up or wrecking it? I really love rotaries - the smell of hot oil and fuel, the curious looks of people who have no idea what it is, never knowing if it's gonna flood or not etc etc. However, my history with RX7s has not been good. In fact it's been so bad that I should consider going into the breaking industry. let me explain :
Jan 98 to July 98 - '88 N/A FC
This was my first RX7 and when I stared my lasting but expensive love affairs with these cars. I bought this car with lots of miles (90k) and little knowledge of rotaries. This fateful combination meant that I bought a car with low compression but didn’t realise this until Mazda told me after it had flooded for the 20th time. Being a cheapskate I thought I would just soldier on rather than spending the money on a rebuild.....BAD mistake. I was visiting family in Ireland on holiday when the engine went bang. I then found out that there was nowhere in Ireland who could rebuild a rotary (Mazda wouldn't even touch it). I had an engine shipped over only to find it was from a Jap import and the local mechanic wouldn't fit it. To save the pain of getting the car shipped back to England I just sold the car there and then. Took a huge loss and flew home minus one car.

So after that disaster you think I would learn my lesson? oh no :
Nov 2002-July 2003 '92 Efini FD
Time for a new car and this time I thought I would up the power stakes. This car was awesome and frightened the crap out me on more than one occasion. I never owned a car as powerful as this or as fun to drive. This one had a rather sticky ending though - it wound up upside down in a field one wet Friday morning. The pictures of this car still make me want to cry, if you are brave enough you can see them here and hear the whole sorry story :

Once again you would have thought by now I would have really been put of RX7s? Think again.....
October 2004- ???? '90 T2 Convertible
I have recently bought this mint RX7 from ebay. Buying a car on Ebay without being able to see it is a scary experience. This one was such a deal that it was worth the scariness. Turns out it is immaculate with an engine rebuild just 18k miles ago. The only problem I can see is a small amount of bubbling around one rear wheel arch which I should be able to take care of. This car is a nice balance between my FC and my mad FD. Just the right level of power without being downright dangerous. I never thought I would buy a convertible though as I wanted to use this car on the track ( only amateur fun days). It was such a good deal though that I had to get it. A couple of pics are attached.
Look forward to using the board again!

I had a friend encounter a fence rail at low speed in the rain.

No flame suit needed for stock, especially a turbo vert.
The only mod I will suggest is to replace the stock stereo with a new CD-RW player.
I have seen them for as little as $70 US.
You can burn a CD-R with 5-6 hours of your favorite MP3's and they don't skip.
It may need fresh speakers also.
