Rotary Alkymist

Hey guys. I ended up pulling a rookie move, something that we've all been told never to do. Sure enough it was when I was demonstrating to a friend how one defloods an rx-7. I ended up putting lead on top on the rear and trailing on the bottom. The symptom it caused is what would later strike me to be intriguing. It gave me the dreaded 3800 rpm hesitation.

It would happen mostly in a closed loop situation. If I was giving it a good amount of pedal it would run much smoother but still not right. Revving at idle it had a strange rattling exhaust sound. The power was hampered ... especially after secondaries kicked in. Also, when I was cranking it, it would crank much more slowly due to the firing order working against the engine.

I just wanted to share this. I found it to be interesting that it caused the 3800 rpm hesitation which is usually attributed to bad grounds or fuel related. It got me thinking how many other people have mistakenly done this and have found themselves lost in the rabbit hole of info pertaining to the 3800 hesitation?

She's running strong again. I didn't run her too long like that. This was all sorted out in an afternoon ... just not the same afternoon haha. I began to suspect a bad plug wire .... it ended up being a case of bad lighting. I'm old enough that working without light should be a thing of the past. Thanks for reading.
