Question 3 somewhat basic questions

!) Has anyone removed the heat/sound padding on their hood? What are you guys thoughts on that?
2) How do I clean the clean instrument panel plastic? It seems whatever I use just fogs it up? Anything to use to get it cleared up?
3)When I removed the back seats, there was some kinda padding underneath over the metal. How do I remove the padding? Are there any cons to removing it?

Thanks again guys

yes it does nothing except keep heat off the hood so its not too hot to the touch you need to use a wax that eliminates clear coat peeling or fading that works great but does come back after a while -6 months or so and finally all that pad is to keep the heat from coming up through the seats it does get hot on just the metal

The hood pad does keep the heat from the hood and from the paint discoloring and peeling. You may need to wash and wax more often, but if your paint (or if your car has been re-painted, the condition of the paint under the new paint) is in poor condition it will only increase the paint's failure.

oh, I see. Thanks for the info. I guess I wont be removing the hood padding, The rear seat padding I dont think should be a problem considering I dont even have seats there, just need to figure out how to remove them.

Depends on if this is your daily driver or not.

Daily driver answers. Opposite could be true you're stripping this Rex for race purposes.

Hood insulation, you'll want to leave it there. Otherwise, wax or no, expect to start seeing your hood paint to discolor. Daily driver, leave it there.

Insulation under rear seat is sound insulation as well as heat insulation. Daily driver, leave it there.

Foged up plastic. If it's fogged up, you're pretty much stuck. There are jewlers polish's for plastic, but it will never clear up like it once was.

You're best answer is to watch for a good one in a wrecking yard. Grap it, then swap it out. The plastic cannot be separated from the housing the guages are mounted in. It's glued. But, the guages can be swapped.

yea I noticed the metals pretty thin back there but noise had increased with the removal of the seats so I dont mind removing the padding since its discolored (from previous owner ) so I pretty much wanna clean up what I started with. The plastics not really fogged but just was wandering what I can use to keep it from fogging but still does a good job cleaning it up. Thanks for all your replies.

I got rid of the sound deadening in my "trunk" in my '90 TurboII.. it's a good amount of weight, and the sound difference I REALLY don't care that much about. I've got basically a fully open exhaust, and it's kinda loud, but nowhere NEAR as loud as my '80 race car. That sucker is LOUD. I rode in it for the first time without my helmet on (driving it around the parking lot) and man I almost couldn't stand it.

Did the padding follow through to the back seats (from the trunk?) How'd you end up removing it??

1) yes you can do it I did it to mine but you have to take more care of your hoods paint.

2) You need to get a plastic cleaner here in N Cali there are places called TAP plastics but you could possibly get it at a hardware store. Be careful not to rub to much in to hard or you can permanently fog your plastic take your time at do a little at a time.

3) Dry Ice and lots of free time
