3.90 to 4.30. Going to hurt top end?

My 3.90 rear is unbearable off the line so thats why I'm switching to a 4.30. However I was under the impression the 3.90 has a powerband higher than the 4.30 for top speed. So would this mean higher end acceleration? The reason I'm concerned is because the car screams on the freeway and I can push gears to higher speeds. I know the 4.30 will help my low end accelleration alot but will it hurt my top end (acceleration wise.)

Send me an email when you are ready to sell the 3.90s.

the 4.30's wont hurt your top end as in acceleration, the top speed is lower yes, but it doesnt change your powerband.

No it will help your top end. It will help everywhere. There are very few FCs around here that are capable of topping out 5th gear on public roads, so higher gearing isn't going to hurt you anywhere except slightly at the gas pump.

Actually, a taller rear gear would help at the gas pump as well, being that you have less resistance when taking off, therefore using less gas to take off. Now, keeping your foot out of the throttle is another story...

It might have stopped accelerating, but you didn't top out the gear. By topping out, I mean taking 5th gear to redline.

You are going to be running 10% higher rpm's in any given gear. So if you were running at 4000 rpm in a given gear you are now going to be running at 4400 rpm for the same speed in the same gear.

lol topping out 5th isnt happening in an n/a anyways, on a stock 4.10 4th gear hits about 128mph at 7600 rev limit for S4's, 5th gear tops out between 195-205mph, not sure which cant remember right now, so no worries

The car already gets shitty mileage anyways. The car picks up nicely and its got a TII trans so third gear gets me from 60-90mph pretty quick. I was told you will feel a big difference going from 3.90 to 4.30.

You car probably can't top out the 4.30s anyway, unless you've got a TII with ALOT of power, and alot of *****. Well you live in Murray (REPRESENT! That's my home town man!) so you could just drive to the flats I suppose.... just get the 4.30s you'll love them.

I won't be too upset if the car doesn't top out at 140 instead of not topping out at 160mph. Anyways its good to see you got away from this god forsaken place. I need to update that. I'm in West Jordan now.
