Please do not put the subs where the storage bins are, it sounds horrible. Do a search, there was a long thread a few weeks ago, and I went into a deep explanation there. Just search for "subs" or something like that.

I did put mine where my storage bins were. Operative word is were. I made a custom box that fires forward for a single 12" (square) Kicker Solo Baric. I have a Kicker Z380 or Z240(??cant remember right now??) amp driving it and because its now loading into the seat back it sounds much better than dropping it into the storage bin as I originally did. Also ONE of these subs is making more cleaner volume than most of my friends pairs of sub in thier cars(that proper english?). I also recomend you talk to a smaller stereo shop, those guys usually tend to take a little longer to get you aquinted with the equipment and what your actually trying to achieve sound wise. ALSO dynamat anything that rattles or you think will rattle. Now that the GF is making me put my car back together so she wont be embarassed to be seen in it (also means that IROC blue paint is gonna have to get put on too ) Im trying to do it all right to keep from doing the work twice.

Take your time and do it right the first time and you'll be happier in the long run.

for this past week and a half, my friends and i have been planning out designs for my stereo in my car. to start out with, i have 2 MTX 12" subs. we finally decided to take out the storage bins and build a custom box with a single face covering both boxes. the face is at a 40 degree angle towards the front of the car. the face fits nicely around the wheel wells. we are just finishing up the whole thing. tomorrow we have to cut out the holes to put the subs, seal them in, and put the upholstery on them. before we did all this, we made a couple of makeshift boxes and placed them in the area where they would be when to project was done. they sounded great once we got them secured to the car. i really love the punch you feel from the subs being only a couple inches from the seat.

so, i would highly recommend this and will get you pics ASAP.

next will be a 15" in the back of the car.... maybe it will fit in the spare tire well.

also, if you are planning on having more than one sub, i would recommend NOT putting them in a single box. i think this dampens the punch and the capabilities of the sub.

also, if you are planning to push the sub to its limits, be sure to make the cubic feet of the box on the smaller of the range as it will keep the sub from blowing as easily.

I find that i get the best sound when the sub(s) are facing the rear hatch .... my opinion would be to angle them side by side facing up towards the back window....

May take up a lot of room, but you get the best sound.

I agree...Firing at the back glass is the best pisition for sound quality/level. But you also lose a lot of storage room, and those boxes tend to be very heavy. My last box weighed in at righ about 100 lbs with the subs in it.

Firing straight up from the storage bin location is the worse placement I have ever heard in an FC. Firing forward from there shouldnt have the problems that firing straight up, but I have never personally heard it. Ill let other people who have done it voice their opinions.

Hey PaulC, that is the same setup I want to put in my '87 sport. Do you have any pictures of what the final setup looks like, or even better yet, the sub enclosure dimensions? Thanks.
