Question 2nd gen NA performance

I have monza headers and arospeed exhaust on my car, as well as a bonez intake, some magnecor 11mm kevlar spark plug wires, and ive removed the air pump and ac compressor and their belts, ive also replaced the NA fuel pump with the Turbo II fuel pump. What else can i do to get some good horsepower without spending a fortune?

You can add a electric fan,it adds up to 12 hp.pinapple sleaves for 5th and 6 ports for 7hp more and a advance in timing.......Jim

I don't think the electric fan will add up to that much hp, but I can tell you from experience that it will help to improve your throttle response to a certain degree.

remove that p/s... u kan feel the road better with it out n e ways... the power steering puts more parasitic drag on ur car than ur ac did.... I DONT SEE WHAT A T2 FUEL PUMP WOULD DO FOR U ....i dont think u need more fuel as of yet.... try getting a s5 intake maybe.....hmmm
start cutting away at un necessary things lol
umm weight reduction to the extent of ur liking....alum hood....cant think of n e thing else off the top of my head... umm safc-2 better tuning or an aftermarket ecu.. BETTER CLUTCH.. maybe a reduced weight flywheel... lighter wheels...put ur car on a diet... lol
get rid of the smog spider.... maybe go single or true dual.... ok im done lol

The fuel pump is un-needed, and an E-fan wont add 12 hp. Check the archives for a thread about how to port your Intake Manifold. This is a real power adder and its practically free. Gut your main cat if you still have it, or replace it with a glasspack for more flow and a quieter exhaust.

Remove your tow hooks, most all tow truck companies wont use them anyways, and they weigh about 10lbs all together.

Surround your air filter with a cold air box and find a way to route fresh air into it, and make sure its enough air too.

I think he meant 1-2 HP for that electric fan, not 12.

And the T2 fuel pump will actually rob HP away on a basicly stock N/A.

True dual exhausts and a RB header would have been a much better exhaust mod for bang for the buck.

appreciate the ideas guys. I already have headers though, and the electric fan idea i already had and will do that in the next few weeks....what is a good electric fan though? point me in the right dirrection...and can i get some opinions on removing the power steering? why is it that the T2 fuel pump will rob power from the na?

yo the electric fan adds 12 hp i dont care what anyone says it is a good mod for some power when i did my electric fan and removed my air pump i had a ery noticable power increase the fan is a very good idea to do see for yourself how much power you get but i can promise you that you will notice it,,,,,,brian

An e-fan at this stage for him is a waste of $200 that could be much better spent to add REAL torque to the car. Get rid of the cats(if you haven't already) and start looking at 5-6th sleeves. Or save the cash and start looking at a piggy back ecu.

If you can show us some dyno runs of before and after the e-fan then ok but I am 99.9% sure your wrong. Its not like we have a propeller on the front of the engine.

Free stuff:
Bump the timing. 8 degrees of advance has shown an increase of 10+ Dyno Proven RWHP.

Port match the intake runners. Remove any rough burs.

Port the Throttle Body.

Cold air intake.

Remove dead weight.

Advice:
The TII fuel pump on a Stock S4 engine won't do much. It's a crude way to add fuel and will make your car run rich. NA engines make the most power when running leaner. Switch back to the stock pump or get an Apexi A-AFC and tune the car on a dyno. A S-AFC has been proven to pick up another 10 RWHP.

If you take your intake apart to port match, get the pineapple 6-port sleeve inserts. (Follow the instructions on the website closely!)

the fan takes about 12 hp to work and if you get an electric fan it frees up that power when i did mine i had a noticable power increase so dont call me a bullshitter it worked for me

If your fan was taking 12 HP to work, then the fan was broken and even then, it would be pretty impossible for the fan to use 12 HP.

you said that when you took the fan out you also took out.... your air pump too, did you take out anything else at the same time? maybe those added to the difference you had? Or maybe the fan bearing was f'ed up?

All we want is to know WHERE you got the 12 hp figure.

like MtnRacer said!!! lol.

The Efan will only remove parasitic drag to the engine rotation. It will make the engine rev quicker(Mine did.I noticed it when I had to put stock back in).

It will add some parasitic effects to the electrical system though.

E-fan is not worh the trouble unless your stock fan is broken. There are MUCH better mods. Best place to start is head up to the Archives and read a thread called "how to make a beefy NA".

sorry for being more of a n00b, but will advancing the timing have any negative effects on the way the car runs?

I think that advancing timing will shift the torque curve. You might gain some hp at places but you could also end up losing. I believe that advancing a little can't hurt too much but if you go overboard then it's not good.
