2nd gen electrical

hello: car is a 90 vert w/at. car will not turn over. had battery ckeck and it is ok. had starter check and it is ok. re-installed battery and starter and tried ignition. nothing.removed neg cable and attached battery charger and the battery kept accepting a charge (green, fully charged light did not come on the battery charger) for two days. disconected the postive and negative and reconcected the battery charger and it charged up fine (green light on). I don't see anything obvious like pinched or frayed wires and the car was running fine before this problem. pleases advise. Bill.

See if 12v at the starter and you can, try to jump the starter to see if it will energize. If the starter and bat good, check the neutral safety switch. If you haven't, try the starter in different positions, or while moving the selector.
It's a start.

Thanks for the advice. Battery has 12.65 V. Connected battery to car and still have 12.65 V. Tested at started and 12.63 V. Opened door and interior lights came on. Tried headlights and got a low whirring sound but headlights did not raise. Interior lights seem less bright. Checked battery, 12.60 V. Tested starter 10.33 V. Tried headlights again and no movement or whirring sound, interior lights not on and then several (5-6) clicks sounding like they came from the fan shroud area. Still 12.60 at battery. Whats next to check? Regards, Bill.

Corroded battery terminals and or a bad negative batt cable connection at the starters long bolt. IF you left that batt neg wire off the long bolt on the starter........fix it and make it right.

Hello: Re-cleaned the battery terminals. Could not find a ground wire that would connect to the starter motor. There is ground wire connected to the engine at the bell housing. Is there a ground that needs to be added to the starter? When the battery was fully charged and connected all the electrical seems to work (interior lights, headlights, etc.). When I turn the key to the start position there is a funny noise from the passengers side of the engine compartment and the interior lights go dim and the battery is discharge. Headlight will not longer raise, etc. Battery and starter have both been tested and passed by the local parts place.

I would really learn To Spell before giving advice,Or quit posting while Drunk!..Back to the problem at hand: check the Starter,again..the Connection that goes to the Big terminal on the Starter.Make sure that you get 12 volts there, and the Ground that goes to the Bell housing, make sure that It is clean and that Bolt is nice and Tight,if it isn't then you don't get good ground...Now,..When the Key is flipped to START,you should get 12 volts at the Little Terminal on the Solenoid. If not then Check your Main Fuse(Engine bay Fuse Block).Check the connections there also. They get corroded. The Noise that you are Referring to is Most likely a headlight Relay that has Gone bad, they often do...That may help you a bit.if not post up again.Cheers,STYX..OH another Idea..Check to see Which terminal you connected the Thick wire to AT the Starter,It may be the wrong one.

The ground cable from the battery negative terminal orignally went to the starters long bolt. IF it's attached to some other bolt that connects the engine to the transmisison, that's fine as long as it's on good.

It does sound like you put a cable on the battery wrong or the starter wrong or some other wire on wrong.

Remove both the large wire on your starter and let it hang in the air. Then, with a fully charged battery, see if your headlights work right now. Also remove the large cable from the bellhousing and let it hang in the air prior to doing the above.
