I have been trying to find a decent looking lip for my S4 and was told that a 1989/90 240SX lip would fit. I came across this one by chance. First of all I have never seen one, so does this look right to you and secondly it is a little out of shape and has the crack shown. Can these plastic lips be repaired?The guy that has it is acting like it is a real rare (expensive?) piece. What do you think it is worth if anything? Also, if I decide not to take it does anyone want me to give you contact information? Before I offer anything for this thing I want to see if I can get a positive ID on this part.

 

Dude I can't help you to ID that lip but I too have been looking forever for a lip for my S4. I was just recently at pick-a-part in Cali and came across a 626 coupe(1988-1992) that had a two piece lip. There was a FC at the yard so I took the lip off the 626 and put it underneath the FC. DAMN close, just a little short on the sides.

I bought it and ended fitting it on my FC. Had to drill some new holes in the lip but that was about it. Used small 10mm nuts and bolts and some screws and clips.

well, honestly I have never heard of fitting that lip but that particular piece doesn't look to be in good shape at all. I wouldn't take his "rare and expensive" crap at all. Offer a low price if your are still considering it.

 

lol prolly because ...... anyways. yaay alot of track guys use that lip. and i have one on my fc as well. if you dont want it let me know what he is asking and i will prolly get my hands on it.

 

Derek - Do you have any pics of that lip on yours and how hard it was to make fit. I stumbled across these two links. The first where I saw reference to the 240SX lip fitting on an S4. The second was they guys car domain page that had some pics with the lip.

Is the install easy? Do you still use those metal brackets in the pic? Is that material fixable - that part has a small crack that would need to be fixed.

BTW - he is asking around $100 for the lip. Sounds like a lot, but there are not too many good chaoices for the early FC that I could find.

that is the stock zenki lip. they are hard to find in good condition but not that hard. i actually threw the one away that was on my s13. but again price is negated by demand.

 

that is definitely the zenki S13 lip. I have the same one sitting in my garage waiting for install. Cost?? I paid 100 shipped for mine from a forum member last year and it looks slightly nicer than the one pictured. It all depends what its worth to you and how long you want to wait to find one.

 

I've never actually seen one of these installed in person - only pictures. I am hoping it will be as good a fit as others have said. So $100 isn't totally off the wall for this. It is relatively local to me so shipping will be free. Like I said, I have been trying to find a decent looking S4 lip for quite a while.

Are there any lips that others have found that look good and actually fit? I really don't like the look of the 626 lips coming up short of the wheel well.

 

Just measure the length of your bumper, and get some random lip at the pick n pull and match it to the fc. Thats what I did.. with the help of some zip ties.

Thanks a lot for those pics. Yes - that is exactly the look I want. Very clean look IMO. I can't believe it just bolts on and fits that nice. I think I may have to buy that one and hope to find another in better shape. No one answered the question of repairability of these urethane?? parts. Does anyone know?

 

The 626 lipcome upa little short doen't it? I can not tell from your pics. It isn't much lower than the stock lip on my car now though. The zenki lip drops down much farther and has a better overall look. But, $5 is pretty attractive....

 

When I installed it, I had to bolt from the outside in (side of bumper to center). This kinda pressure fitted the lip so it would naturally curve with the FC's front bumper. Lip is flexable nonetheless.

It is about an inch short on the sides. Here is a better pic BUT it makes it look worse then it really is. Wish my good digital didn't go **** up on me.

 

That lip was definitely a good idea... Too bad the person I sold this car to blew the motor and then sold it to someone ELSE who did a V8-swap in it.

 

Too bad the person that sold me the car built a motor that lasted 3,800 miles... sorry dude. And just to clear things up, I sold it to a local rotary guy who then sold it to another guy that did the LS1 swap.

I think the lip was good, but the fitment definitely wasn't perfect.

BTW Erik, personal rotary update, I have a 13B-RE motor that's going in an S4 TII.

 

damn eric. a v8 swap. that sucks, i always loved that car. it was a beautiful machine and i was heart broken when you sold it. live and learn i guess.

 

You're still around!?! Right on. I didn't mean to offend you by the blown-motor comment. Then again, I wouldn't have recommended running 14psi out of the stock turbo with just the Greddy 720's. I can't prevent detonation from 1000 miles away!

Yeah, that V8 dude sent me several PM's about the car--so I just assumed that, that's who you sold it to.

That's cool you stuck with rotaries though--I just assumed you went back to the V8's.

 

Eh, no hard feelings. It wasn't a solid motor from the get-go when I got it. It was making mid-80's psi on one rotor and about 90 on the other. The hot start problem was the best evidence of this. I tried to get some more fuel into the thing by tuning the SAFC, and your mighty exhaust setup/stock wastegate piled up the boost pretty quickly. I didn't expect the motor to last long, but maybe longer than a few months.

Yea, I'm still around. I'm on the local car forum more than here I guess, but I check in every once in a while. I bought a Toyota Avalon for daily driving duty and leave the rotary stuff for fun. And there's nothing wrong with V8's

 

i will tell you right now i can walk out to my garage and take the bumpers off my 240 and FC and they would not match up ...it may fit but would have many mis measured edges and a whole lot of drag....bad idea

 

We are just talking about the lip, NOT the whole bumper. Look at the PICs of the eirksseven car. It has the 240SX lip.

Josh/Erik - just how "not perfect was the fit? It looks pretty good in the pictures. Where is the fitment issue?

From what I can remember about the car, it just looked a bit stretched... and had some gaps around the corners of the front of the car. Plus, you'll have to mount it somehow... Erik, if I remember correctly, used a few "L" brackets and drywall screws This particular car sat lower than stock, so the lip was always scraping something (particularly the curbing to get in my driveway)

Photos can be deceiving my friend. I've known a few cars that photo well, but that's just it, a photo. What you see is not necessarily what you get. I commend Erik for always trying new things, nonetheless.
