ignition breakup and odd timing
I decided that today was a nice day to do some work on the 7, and started off by checking the TPS, idle, and finally the timing.
The TPS was still on the dot, and the idle was just a hair under 750, but when it came to timing it got a little odd. I checked L1 first, and it was on the dot with the yellow mark (red mark appearing a little further away from the driver side), so i was going to call it a day, but decided to check T1 for grins. T1 also was lighting up on the yellow mark...so i checked all of the other wires, and got the same thing.
I had the Initial Set jumpered, so i removed it and tried again. It was doing the same thing, except this time i wasn't getting a steady flash from the light. I tried it again on all wires and it was noticable on the Leading coil, with an occasional hiccup that was barely noticable on either of the Trailing.
I have a Jacobs FC1000 on the Leading coil, and this is an S4 N/A. Could the FC1000 be interfering with the timing? And does it sound like i have a dieing coilpack or just a bad connection?

Next time you see an intermittent flash from the lead wire, just flip your timing lights clamp 180 degrees and try again.
I'm talking the timing light clamp that goes on the wire. Some timing lights have this clamp with and arrow pointing towards the sparkplug. Just flip it so the arrow points at the coil instead. Works wonders.

Been busy, never got to post the results until now.
Tested it again, none of the intermittent flashing this time around, but i did get it to do the same thing with the timing for the Trailing showing up on the Leading marks. It actually ended up being that i wasn't careful with how close the inductive clamp was to the Leading wire plugs and with them getting extra juice from the FC1000, i guess it picked it up over the weaker pulses from the Trailing wire. I just slid it along the wire until i got a clean reading from the Trailing without any interferance.
