217,000 miles on an N/A What should I expect inside?
Ok I'm planning on just rebuilding the 13B S5 motor I currently have but have a concern... the motor currently has 217,000 miles on it still runs but is blowing oil like crazy. Does anybody know what I should expect when I open the little bugger up? Should I expect the housings to be trashed or what?
A little background on the car 89 GXL originally purchased by the Aunt. She gave it to me knowing I would recondtion the car rather than part it out or junk it. She did oil changes at 3,000 miles like clockwork. It appears she did most of the preventive maitainence but slacked a bit later in the car's life.

is it blowing oil or burning oil? If the car recieved great care, the internals may be worn but not trashed. If you end up needing any parts, I got some parts left over from my 89 GXL before I converted it to turbo.

If it was taken care of like that.. you may be in luck... the housings may still be in decent shape.
What to expect though...
the rotor bearings and the stationary gear bearings are most likely going to be shot.... but, as long as they are not heat scored, the eccentric shaft should be OK. They don't come with most rebuild kits, but you can get them from mazdatrix, they are cheap too.
Step wear on the Iron housings is probably going to be significant... send them to mazdatrix or somewhere similar and have them lapped for sure.
You want to eyeball the rotor housings carefully... they cannot be fixed, if they are shot, don't try to fudge it, get new ones or really good used ones.
Oil pump chain will be out of spec but thats no biggie.
The oil burning tells me that the oil control rings are going to be shot and you'll need the Hard rings as well as the o-rings ...
With that much mileage, you will definately want the "Master" kit from rotartyaviation anyway and replace all the internal springs and seals.
If you don't have the Bruce T. video, get it.. he tells you everything you need to look for and how to do it!
