Talking 2 MOST COMMON question I get ask about my TII

Just want to share with you TII owners that everytime I meet someone in a parking lot or someone stranger who likes my car, he always ask me 2 questions that I don't have answers for. Its questions that I wondered the answer to myself!

(1) Why is your hood scoop off center? Why didn't they make the car with it in the middle?

(2) This car is Twin Turbo right? It says Turbo II!

So then I gotta tell 'em, I dunno why they made the scoop off center, I guess from the design of the engine. And Turbo II, I have no idea why they called it that, but its SINGLE turbo only. Are there any smarter more educated answers I can give to these questions that I get asked so many times over?! Thanks!

It's called a Turbo II bacause the first gen 7 had a turbo version. Who says sequels are never as good as the originals?

Here are your answers

1. Look at your intercooler, see how it's kinda to the driver's side of the car? Yep...that's why the scoop is off center.

2. The TurboII designation comes from the fact that the TII car's were the 2nd model of turbocharged RX-7s, the first one's being the 1st-Gens. However, the turbo'd 1st-gens weren't available in the US. Sucks for us.

Ah finally I got some answers, thanks guys! I read somewhere on the Internet that Mazda Engineers designed the engine intercooler setup & hood scoop to be off center to show a rebellious attitude with the car. They didn't want to go with the flow of everyone else and have it centered, they wanted to be different and unique. Don't know if that is TRUE or not.

my dad and i noticed on my recent rebuild that the entire engine is set to the drivers side a bit. if you look at the center of the front pulley it sits off th the right a little. the reason for this is the size of the intake and exhaust systems. i think it is probably even more of an issue with the turbo.

hehe, wellllllll, the n/a is perfect...never better...but the turboII is hurting. my guess is that it needs a new TPS. it has all the symptons of a shitty one and the readings i got from the present TPS were wayyyy off...and the screw for adjustment wouldn't even budge. but i've also got new plugs and fuel filter i'm gonna throw in...it "should" be up and kicking *** again in a little over a week...

The questions that I usually get asked is, "Is it fast?" or "How big is the engine?"

I usually say it is kinda fast. Then ask if they want to run em. haha

Strange I guess I haven't been in a situation where people can ask me. I'm lucky, my car doesn't say Turbo II on the fenders or anywhere else. People just assume its a n/a I guess. I used to see this one girl with a 87-88 TII all the time...i want to run into her and ask her some questions...

Ones I get...

What is that?

What year is that?

Oh ya, and all the stupid bullshit taught to kids by that damned racing movie, the bi and the curious...

Then I have to correct all their misinformed logic. It hurts when im drunk...

...

The few questions I get asked are usually from V8 guys. They usually ask something like "How big is yer engine?" or "How many litres is that thing?"... They also tend to ask if I have NOS alot LOL! I think they believe that no import can walk 'em w/out NOS =). One time I pulled up next to some dudes in a mustang gt convert, and asked if he wanted to run 'em. He asked "How many liters you got?" and I said, "It's a 1.3l, 80ci"... he asked if I had NOS and I said no, a turbo... and he actually had the nerve to say "I don't want to hurt your feelings"... Needless to say I absolutely destroyed him, and then slowed down so I could laugh in their faces, but they turned off behind me! LOL

I get asked, "why do you have those ugly seat covers?"

My answer, "Because my driver side leather seat is crap and I put both covers on to match."

The other flattering thing I hear from people is that they ask me what year my car is? So I say its an 1987 Turbo II...they respond super surprise and say that they thought it was at least a 1990 or something in the 90s! That was even when I had my old tailights on and everything...maybe the new paint job helped. I styling of the 2nd GEN RX7 is still classy and still looks fresh (well compared to a same year 300ZX, Supra or MR2, the FC looks DAMN nicer!!!). I get so many compliments on this car, yet its the OLDEST car I ever owned. My previous cars: 91 Escort GT, 92 Mazda 323, 97 Civic Si Coupe (fully done out and turbocharged) and a 1998 Sunfire GT. I get as much compliments on my FC as I did with my suped up Civic. I didn't know so many people like the looks and styling of the RX7 so much, especially the FC. The MOST SHOCKING thing I hear from other people is that for some demented reason, they say the LOVE the FC more then FD...why I have no idea...my dream car is the FD and I can't understand why they feel that way. And these aren't poor fokes either, they all driving suped up new cars, like Eclipse Turbos and Civic SiRs!
