1st time RX7 owner

I just got a 1988 GTU RX7 non turbo, The shifter on the trans is real sloppy. I was told that you can't interchange the trans. Reason I am asking is because I bought two of them and the other is not a GTU. And also it seems like it don't have any power. I installed 4 new plugs and it didn't make a difference. Can anyone give me some advise THANKS???

Welcome to the rx7club.

Your shifter problem is more than likely the shifter bushings. Use the search function and you will find lots of info on how to replace these. Last I checked they were $10 at my local dealership.

The lack of power problem can be a million things. I'd guess that the 5th and 6th ports aren't opening. Do a search for info on these as well.

Hope that helps, and again, welcome to the RX-7 community.

Where do you have no power? Up high, down low, everywhere? Does it just feel sluggish, or is there really no power at all? There are several possible reasons, we just have to know the specifics before we know for sure.

When I just set there and give it gas it feels real sluggish. It don't rap out. So I drove it up the road about 1/2 mile and I couldn't even shift to 2nd because it fell on its face.

Could be your 5th and 6th ports. I went 4 months on just 4 ports. The soleniod wasn't grounded properly and didn't send the signal for them to open. A 5cent ground wire gave me TONS of power with my streetport.

Well if the engine shakes badly at idle, definately do a compression test. Also check to see if your spark plug wires are going to the correct plugs.
