can go 13's for $1000 in mods.
I did 13.8 with a test pipe ($10), a drop in K&N ($25) and bleeder boost control ($2.99) set to 17psi on my 90 DSM.

I've never owned an RX7 so I can only say this: 1G DSMs do not handle well unless you cut a LOT of weight out. I had full coilovers and camberplates. It handled OK, but the ride was too harsh for the improvement. I've never been in an RX7 and I can tell you it will handle better simply because of the weight difference.

And I went through 5 trannys in 50k miles. The motors are bulletproof. The trannys are glass. I rarely dragraced, it was all heavy street driving. The trannys could not cope with my abuse.

In closing, I will say after owning a DSM, I will not own anything other than a turbo AWD car.

rx-7 all the way (wonder what his post on the DSM forum is looking like lol). When i bought my TII, my roomate had a 92 talon TSI. We cooked on them both one night for about 15 miles through the country, got home and his turbo was glowing orange (hmmm...turbo timer maybe) but in the end, the rex won. 4 grand later, he had one bad *** talon, but the fuel rail only lasted under higher fuel pressure for a month. Car burnt to the ground. I saw this first hand and have seen it happen before, DSM owners beware. I also have got the pleasure to drive both, and the mazda feels soooo much sportier. I guess it comes down to who's going to be doing the work on it. both will need it, but any mechanic can work on a DSM whereas not too many people i know, or or more importantly trust, will work on my mazda. If you are planning to do most everthing yourself, get the rex.
