in my 1991 FC, it plays CD's.

I inserted a CD I bought from FYE and it was playing beautifully.

So I decided to burn a Mix using Nero "Make Audio CD"
and this is the option I only use because it plays on all CD players.

but for some reason, I inserted the Mix CD in the FC vert radio, its not playing anything or reading anything?

Is it the CD? Is it the Factory Radio?

It plays about 3 more other CD's I have in my collection except this CD-R
by the way, I used a brand called "Magnavox" CD-R

I've burned already about 3 CD-R's and none weren't playing on the FC radio.

Can someone please explain

 

I have the same problem with my FC's stereo.

It plays only certain CDs with no rhyme nor reason as to which ones as far as I can tell - different burners, media, and programs all give varied results.

All you can do is cross your fingers in my experience.

 

Which brand CD-R's have been working for you?

 

Even Taiyo-Yuden (!!!!) sometimes get giant coasters, whereas I get quite a few that are perfect from a super-cheap stack of 100 TDK's from Costco...

I'm not sure it's media, or at least a 100% correlation to media if there is an issue - ANY issue - with Taiyo-Yuden media.

 

It's an old school cd player which was around before they were required to have a broader range wavelength for the laser.

It doesn't have such great tolerance for different types of cd's. A quality brand is Imation or Maxwell.

besides, dont look for too many cool features out of one of the first cd players in a car. especially when that cd player is 18 years old.

 

I've used all types of burned CD's in my '90 Turbo II. Usually, I use TDK, Maxwell, or Memorex CD's. I need to check if they are CD-R or CD+R. Never had a problem with sound coming out, only that it skips over every bump. Burning the CD at a very slow speed has helped me with the skipping problem. I've got the CD + tape + radio configuration.

 

when I used to try it in my original radio back in the day, the only cdrs that would play were "music CDRs", like from TDK, try some of those.

the cheaper the CDR the less chance of it playing, they would skip if you looked at them cross eyed, with radios so cheap go for a nice double din radio.

 

Holy **** guys, its time to upgrade. Why the hell are you dicking around wasting so much time burning cds at 4x speed, when your drive and media are probably 52x capable, just to get it to skip less frequently? It's an ancient first generation cd player, your never going to get the kind of skip free playback that any new cd player will have. Any new cd player you can find will play just about any disc you can throw at it. Plus you can get MP3 cd\dvd players capable of playing massive collections of audio off each disc.

I turned my stock cd player from my parts car into a one time use softball and used the vert chassis brace as the bat... It was in bad shape externally and probably didn't even work. However the one from my car that did work sometimes skipped on bumps no matter what speed the disc was burned at. I got rid of that one. There are way better options out there now.

 

^^ maybe he's like me and doesn't want to give up the stock look. 90% of the time while driving, I am listening to the engine anyways.

 

My 90 Vert player plays anything I throw at it-CD CDR+/-, CDRW-as long as I am parked in my driveway. I have NEVER gotten through an entire song on a CD while driving. These players are so old tech that there is really only one reason to keep them in your dash-

NO ONE WANTS TO STEAL THEM!!! The are the perfect stereo anti-theft device!!!

 

Seriously, one look at it and no one wants to steal it! That, and I never listen to the stereo while out on the road.

Although I am getting a kick out of some of the people commenting on cheap media when Taiyo-Yuden media was mentioned - The funny part is the absolute best quality stuff from companies like Maxell or TDK quite often is rebranded Taiyo-Yuden. TY's the best, hands down, in media. /ZOMG!

 

you can sit and look for less expensive taiyo-yuden made media, or you can just pick up a better brand and save yourself the hassle.

either way the best advice is to change to a newer stereo, carry less disks because you can burn mp3s, and then you can really buy the cheapest cdrs, or use your ipod or even flash drives.

 

Just a guess, but im pretty sure anti-shock came out after 1991...

 

The CD's need to be burnt at 2X or 1X, not any higher. If you are burning the CD's at 4X + the factory CD player has a very very hard time playing them.

 

Hmmmm, I've been burning them at 52X speed.

The lowest setting my TDK CD Burner has is 4X.

I'm actually going to try 4X (600kb/s) speed right now, maybe that'll work.
