Well I was driving and saw a 1991 RX-7 with only 21,000 miles looks like new....but has auto trans soooo,,its this car good?
Is that year model good? By the way selling for $5,500. And if i bought it is there anyway I can convert the trans to Man. ANd if so how much about will that be and is there anyprobs I will run into if I did?
Thanks guys

Really depends on what you want to do with the car. It was probably a GXL model rx-7 since it was an automatic.
1992 was the last year for the 2nd generation rx-7s, so 1991 was definitly a good year.
If you want lots of performance potential, I'd recommend a turbo II model. If you want a cool car to drive and keep it as a classic or minor mods - then the GXL your looking at would be great.
If you want a good mix of low cost and performance potential - than a GTU or any other non-turbo manual rx-7 would be awesome.
If you want a "pimpin" sweet ride - then the convertible for sure.
It's a lot cheaper to start with a manual/stick shift.
Either way - there all great sports cars and allot more fun to drive than any civic, accord, etc...

If it was a 91, then it is just classified as a "Coupe" There are 3 trims for the production year 1991:
TII
Coupe
Convertible
They did away with subtitles like GTU and GXL.
As for the auto to manual swap, many people have done it. It isn't that hard to do if you can find the parts to do it, which again isn't that hard. My opinion would be to leave it auto with that few of miles on it. That is almost new! The cost to convert to manual would depend completely on what you have to pay for the parts. Those would be flywheel, pressure plate, clutch plate, tranny, and driveshaft. If you wanted to go with an LSD rear end, that would be the time to swap it out. All the parts need to be N/A for it to work correctly. You can't go with a TII tranny and an N/A driveshaft and make things easy. I wish my 91 vert had 21K on the ticker.
$5500 is a good asking price if the body is mint, paint is great, interior is great. Basicly what a car should look like with 21K on it. Definately get it compression checked by a Mazda dealer. Is this the first owner? Is it at a car lot? Are there any signs of anything wrong?

ok here is the thing. I have a 91 auto. it has 79,000 on it and it still runs real strong. I must say that the only downside of the auto is that it sucks off of the line, there isnt hardly any low end. I have no mods on mine so i have no idea how much they help. I would recommend getting a stick for sure you will like it alot more in the end especially in the performance end of things. But I cant say that you wont enjoy an auto because it is still a 7!!! if you got any questions for me feel free to pm me or I have aol im my sn is gz91rx7
one thing is for sure you are looking at the right type of vechile!!

Figure this as rough estimates:
flywheel - $25(stock/used) - $225 (aftermarket/AL)
clutch/PP - $150-$400 (depending on how hard it clamps)
tranny - $150-$250 (depending on mileage)
driveshaft - $25-$50 (depending on seller )
Also, figure on needing new tranny fluid and clutch fluid, along with the bearing kit for a clutch change.

I have a 91 convertible also with an auto tranny. Has 105K and is still going strong. If you buy the car, I'd be interested in the tranny if it truly has 21K on it. I'll save it for when mine wears out.
