yeah, I bought a beater and I cannot open the driver's side door with the exterior door handle. I can open the door with the interior handle.

I know this is a common problem with RX-7s, so am I guessing correctly that I should replace the exterior door handle or could it be something else.

*planning on a junkyard trip tomorrow*

More than likely it's your door handle being broken, but just to be sure, you might want to take a look inside the door just to be sure no other linkage came off/apart. But like you said, it's almost a sure bet it's the door handle itself

i actually had the handle fall off in my hand. i just took the door apart and saw that everything was still there (linkage), but the handle had unbolted itself from the door frame. i found the 2 bolts that hold the door handle, the bolt where actually in the door at the bottom. and i rebolted the handle. havn't had the problem since.
