You have to get those security nuts off the Key assembly and get the Ignition OFF the column to get the car to steer. You get that top bracket off and the ignition falls off.Easy as that.
They are like Round headed bolts.
Go to NEW tech and see the thread Up there. It was just mentioned.

you can remove them by dremelling a flat notch in them and using a flat head screwdriver to remove them.

moral of the story, don't use a screwdriver to try and start your car, this isn't gone in 60 seconds.
he said glove box, not a big deal the glove box could be broken or replaced at one time, but it also may not open the rear bins either- which again is not such a big deal.

you know when you take a lock from the car there is no chance the possibility of a swapped lock wont match a VIN cut key

still there is no reason to keep kicking him when he is down about the screwdriver in the ignition thing, think he got the point by now

i realize this, i'm just saying that if he started with 1 key and the new key also works for the doors it should also work for the ignition since the original did. the other locks are plastic and known to be problematic(i never lock them or mess with them, because there's no need to).

the reason it now doesn't work for the ignition is because the tumblers are all jammed up by the penetration of the screwdriver. this is just a simple explanation, the ignition lock cylinder is garbage and now won't accept a key. remove it, figure out what it will take to replace it/re-key it and move on, lesson learned.

i never said it wouldn't work, i just couldn't recall exactly how the lock cylinder mounted. i do somewhat recall the 2 snapped off screws through the top, which i ground a slot in and removed that way. but the lock cylinder is still inside that part and will require another step of attention to get it out with the damaged lock barrel.

the 2 snapped screws hold the whole ignition housing to the column, including the steering lock mechanism. so once it is removed the car would be drivable by manually turning the ignition switch with a screwdriver, but anyone else could also drive it at any time once inside the car.

Ya,you just jiggle the lock assembly and the Keyway looking Lock mechanism that comes OUT of the ignitions switch, that is wedged in the hole in the column will work it's way out.
You may have to wiggle the steering wheel, but the ignition will come off.
So,after the ignition switch is off the steering column now has no lock on it.You can steer into bushes,trees,Grandma..(then into the yard, and say the car was possessed.)
