1990 GXL: My taillights only work when the brake is applied

My issue is very similar to this thread.

My tail lights and dash lights (as in tachometer and speedometer lights) do not work. My taillights do however work when I apply the brake.

I've replaced applicable fuses (stop and ilum) with no success. The bulbs are both good.

Any ideas?

I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to electrical issues.

Okay, so invariably somebody will post saying read the sticky. I did.

But where is the lights switch located?

The problem lies in the plug that attaches to the *headlight* switch OR the headlight switch itself.

You have to remove the SURROUND that the switch is in, or at least loosen it where you can pull the left outboard plug off. Look in the plug towards the end of the plug where there is a white/green wire near a red/black and red/green wire.

To PROVE it's the switch or not, you simply (must not be very simple, I've yet to get anybody to actually DO IT), get a piece of wire and jumper b/t the white/green and the red/black. The TAIL LIGHTS shoulc come on along with the side marker lights.

Then jumper b/t the white/green and the red/green. The instrument lights should come on, proving *something*. Think about it.

I took the panel off and it just ended up being a loose connection to the switch. Thanks for the help guys.
