1990 and 3k to spare.

Hi. I just totalled my accord and i have found a nice 1990 rx-7 to replace it. I will be getting about 8500 from my insurance and the car is 5000. What should i do with the remaining 3k? (btw its an automatic non-turbo).

That's too much $ for a 90 N/A.

You could get a fairly cherry TII for that price.

Also, it's an automatic, you sure you want to dump 3k into mods into an automatic? I'd look for another RX-7, one that is preferably manual, and turbo is always good too.

You shouldn't spend 5k on a N/A automatic. That is seriously over paying. Do yourself a favor find a manual N/A at much cheaper or get yourself a Turbo 2nd gen.

No 2nd gen N/A automatic is worth 5K.

thanks for the advice. i actually just found a beautiful manual in my area for 5500, very, very good condition. It already has some minor modifications, but i think its an N/A. could probably talk it to 5k

Yes, you can get a mildly modded t2 for that price, or a VERY clean s5 NA 5sp. Don't make the mistake of getting the automatic...you will be severely disappointed. IT will probably be slower than your old accord.

Also, FWIW, you can get the average 89-91 NA 5sp for $2500-4000. More than that, and you're overpaying.

IF you want to buy an NA and turbo it, buy an s4. Parts for the conversion for s4 are SO much easier to find, and much cheaper. BEfore purchasing, you should read www.rotaryresurrection.com/turboconversion.htm

What are good used car sites? Auto-trader seems to be the best and i can only find 3 in my area, none of them are turbos.

I would try looking on ebay for them. Actually, by pure luck, I found my car on ebay. It happened to be about 3 blocks down the road. Also, don't hurry into getting one just because there happens to be one near. If you can, wait until you find one in good condition from someone who knew how to take car of it. Aaron Cake has a very good writup on what to look for in a used rx-7 here The other thing to do, which you already figured out, is to ask opnions about stuff on this forum.

You could get a turbo'd 90 N/A with rebuilt engine 3mm from the member Bambam7. I can't go through with the deal. Email him. It's a great deal.

Just buy a t2 and then mod it. Or one already with mods started. DON'T BUY A NA

Dude I wouldn't pay a penny over $3k for an N/A unless it is mint and seriously modded. I've seen GREAT turbo rx's for $4k and even less.

Thanks for the advice. If you guys come accross any sweet deals around my location (south east PA), please feel free to post them up in this thread. I'm having a hard time finding good deals on ebay and autotrader.

Look in the for sale section...

Also, if you really want to find a nice one, be prepared to travel unless you get lucky and find a good one in your area. I had to go to Michigan to get mine.

Exactly. If you want a good one for a decent amount of money, its very unlikely that you will find one in your area. That goes double for Turbo's.

Why is are accords pieces of crap? Because they aren't particularly sporty? Or maybe its becuase they are very reliable, very practical, and can fit more than 2 people?

I say buy a TII that's beat to hell for 1,000-1,500 and then rebuild everything that needs fixing. I payed $1,500 for my TII and a tranny, and paintjob later, it will be like the ones that you see going for 5-6k. If you buy a junky car and rebuild everything, you know what's been done and how its been cared for.
